[QUOTE=Chalk Two;232707]Thanks dallas / nikroc. My humble apologies, I should have made it clearer. My original engine is a 2009 fuel injected lump, that has an engine number falling squarely in the 'ticking bomb' range.

where can i find this list of the ticking timebomb gearboxes ?
(do i wanna find out if mine could be affected? :-/ )

I think the first thing to remember is that a very small fraction of all XT660 engines have been 'reported' as having 3rd gear failures but it seems those of us who suffer have all been in the batch with engine numbers between 6200 - ish to 9500 - ish made in Italy . That's 3000 engines with probably 30 complaints (on this forum ). Lets say 1% of owners.

We're not alone either. Suzuki DR650 owners have the same problem and the thread on that subject can be found on ADVrider.com and also the CMM owners forum (as they have the same engine as the DR)

The Suzuki boys seem to have worked out why it has happened too. Plus Suzuki did something about it.
