Recommend me a front tyre

I was told by a mechanic who used to race Supermotos that the Maxxis tyres are quite good.

Reading reviews i am not so sure,

I used to have some on my SV1000 and they seemed fine to me, but then i never rode it hard enough to know.

I need a new front tyre for my 2005 XT660X.

Now i don't do a lot of milage. mostly leisure riding in summer. I am not a hard rider so need a front tyre that will warm up without much effort. not worried how quick it wears out.

Somebody also told me a wet tyre might be the way to go as they are designed to warm up quicker. (again were they having a laugh at my expense)

Also what make of inner tube should i get as I might as well replace that when i change the tyre.

I have used both maxis and continentals tyres on previous super moto bikes both ok, conti,s warm up a bit faster IMO.

I have used the maxxis sport tyre & found it pretty good for the money but I put a set of Michelin road pilot 3's on this year and they are so much better in the wet & dry. pricey but worth every penny

Which Maxxis were you using, there seems to be a few i have found.

Maxxis MA-PS Supermaxx Sport

Maxxis Supermaxx Dia MA-3DS

Maxxis M6029 Touring

I had the maxxis sport on a cbr 900 a few years back ok in the dry stick fine but a bit of rain and forget it. I was losing the back end to much so took them off.

I had the supermaxx sport, my mate uses the supermaxx diamond on his gsxr which look much better & are available in XTX sizes. (they weren't when I got mine) but Id still go Michelin if you can

I run either a Dunlop qualifier or Sport Smart on the front of all my bikes because they stick and rear depends on how far we I am going.

Ive found the XT to be the worse bike I have ever owned for tyres so now I go cheap and cheerful had a pair of Dunlop qualifiers from M+P 115 quid delivered cant even buy them trade at that.

Sorry, missed that part!

Personally if I'm only going to change one tyre then I replace it with the matching tyre of the one that's staying on the bike - so if I currently have PR3s then the worn tyre will be replaced with another PR3.

Also new tube to suit the tyre size. I use these for the XTX fronts.
