Lost by the water pump. I'm desperate

Hello I have a problem with the water pump, my bike has 25,000 kms, and for some months began to lose coolant through the hole that has the pump in its lower part. I changed the water seals (mechanical seal) and the oil seal. Now after rolling 1000 km has again lost. I am thinking that to introduce the mechanical retainer I lubricated the area a little with grease so that it slipped and did not damage it. Could it be that I lose for that reason? Sorry for my horrible English

Well i might have done almost the same mistake, mine was leaking some bits of coolant through the hole, I changed the seals ad lubricated with silicone spray so that they could mount smoother, but after a few kilometers it started to leak some bits again. I unmounted the pump again and cleaned the mechanical seal and the turbine white part with dish soap, mounted again and no leaks until now, (is was about a year and half ago). But I didn't grease the part where the mechanical seal sits, so if you check yours make sure that the mech seal is fully inserted, if it is, I think it shouldn't leak by there, but i'm not a mechanic :)

Thank you I think I made the same mistake, I greased the mechanical seal to insert it. Do you think it can be taken down again without damage? Thanks for your answer.

Well i think its not possible to remove it without destroying it as it is very tight.

Anyway, I did not grease the mech seal to insert it, I just sprayed some silicone spray when assembled the pump shaft and this might have reduced the necessary friction between the pump shaft (where it has the white small seal) and mech seal.

My advice to you is to disassemble it, give a good clean with soapy water on the mech seal and pump shaft to remove any grease on the rubber/shaft, dry it and reassemble it.
Also make sure that the mech seal is fully inserted into the pump case.

Hope this can help you ;)

Very grateful for your answer, so I will

not done the seal on the XT..
but have replace lots of seals on water pumps
you never lube them as it can glaze the sealing
surface & they don't bed in.. a machanical seal
can sometimes leak after instal till the faces bed in...
