Lakes Comeback Tour 2018

Greetings you fine folk of the interworld.

I know it's a long way off just now, but with the winter approaching it's always good to have something to look forward to.

What say you all to a revisit to the Lakes next year ?

Probably May time, but open to opinions

As Always I'm up for an XTmeet.
For the last few years I have organised the XT meets which have been at North Wales and recently at Dent, N Yorks. The meets have been well attended and thoroughly enjoyable.

Two weeks ago I went to the Rally of the Dutch Tenere club and had a really good time. Harry who came to our rally at Dent had told a lot of the people there, and showed pics from his experience, about how good the meet was.
There was quite a lot of interest to come over to our next rally so we need to put on a good show for our foreign friends as I expect a few may attend.
I will contact Harry with our next details.

I have been thinking about the next meet and Pleides has previously mentioned a meet over in Norfolk and we also have an option of further South, perhaps South Wales (I do know of a fab place!).

Irrespectively if we are to do a Lakes do again I would like to Nominate Haggs Bank at Nentsberry Alston. This is a bunkhouse and camping place which I have been to several times (ABR club) and know the owner Danny quite well. We could have an open fire and he can arrange beer (honesty box) as the nearest pub is too far to walk. There is a small village with good shops not too far away, but he can arrange food or we can have our own barbie.
Shower and toilet facilities are excellent as is parking. Another beauty of this place is that here is a conservatory at the back of the place should the weather be inclement!!!!!!!!
The site is on the Beamish trail and some of the course is directly behind the bunkhouse. There are mines to explore (which need arranging) and the trails in the area cover a vast area, I'm sure I could arrange a guide.
The Lake District is not that far away and a road ride over to that area is easily done in a day.

Check out Haggs Bank Bunkhouse (Nentsberry)

Danny the owner is a biker himself and always gives a warm welcome to bikers.

Nothing is set in stone at this moment, but this is just a suggestion.

I would invite all those interested to reply to Darrens original message with ideas of what they might like, but more importantly a suitable date and intention to come. This will give whoever volunteers to take the reigns and have enough time to come up with a plan...

Cheers SteveD

Happy to hear you have enjoyed the Dutch meeting Steve, all nice people there as well as you have seen!

I will love to come over again, but the period from may 8 until june 11 is going to be impossible for me, due to work. No one at the company gets excused in that period.

I hope to be part of the 2018 meet again, curious about the dates!

maxwell123455 04-10-17 16:44

I'm in for a meet. Lakes, north Wales, mid England does me. If further south I'd need to know a bit in advance to book time off

Replicant 06-10-17 10:13

I am up for this as I missed out this year due to my woes with the insurance repairs taking so long.

Harry00 21-12-17 21:49

So, for me the impossible dates are now official: no one leaves the job between may 2nd and june 16th.
I will gladly drive off to this meet if i have a chance, fight wind and rain to get there as you have seen last year, but it will all depend on the planned date and my work-schedule if it is held during the mentioned period.

Before of after this period there will be some possibilities to taks a few days off...
Hope to see you again in 2018!

scottnet 30-12-17 16:34

Sounds good to me. Do we have any dates ?

Gas_Up_Lets_Go 02-01-18 17:49

Happy December and a very merry January to you all.

So far there is a suggestion of a Lakes meet in Northumberland..

May & June are out for Harry......

So, here's the deal, if 10 members commit to travelling to the frozen north I'll pull something together, somewhere.... sometime.. (just say when you can and can't come).

Otherwise, maybe those of us who want to could just have an impromptu meet up sometime....

Harry00 02-01-18 21:20

As for me, i gladly ride anytime, anywhere, any weather. If i can take the days off, i will be there. Looking forward! :YellowWink_VZHUX5:

I'm up for a meet....I'll keep an eye on what is the preferred date Steve

jon660z 09-01-18 00:04

sooooo whats the plan chaps?? I can probably put a trail route together, not that anyone ever wants too play in the mud with me haha.

trailers packed as is the hammock stand. somebody gimme a date and a postcode haha

Harry00 17-01-18 13:58

Heh! I didn't realise you did do the mud-playing in 2017 until it was too late Jon... Thought the whole bunch went on the tarmac. Would have loved to take the greenlaning, although i also loved the tarmac route. Perhaps a new chance this year! :045:

The Old Coach Road is a lovely run Harry.

Harry00 02-03-18 12:31

Any more news yet about the dates?

Harry00 18-04-18 10:25

Has this topic reached a dead end? Hope not...

jamesk656 26-04-18 19:31

id be up for a meet, just got myself a 2009 Red Tenere and am based between Keswick and Kendal, i can help plan a route if its of help as i ride most of the lanes on my WR250f swell as the 660 so have quite a good up to date experience of their condition!

steveD 26-04-18 19:57

Ok so here we go folks.

We have had in the past Annual meets in the Peak district, Lakes and North Wales.
This year I propose that we have it Mid Wales.
Dates are 3 - 4 August, Highest pub in Wales!
(Usually some do come earlier and leave later)
The Thumper Club will be holding the Annual rally at the same time, same location so I will call on you guys to swell the numbers.
We have a number of guys, reasonably local, that I will call upon to organise a road ride and a trail ride.
Camping as usual.
More details to come as and when I can get them.
If intend to come I will start adding a list to this thread and will keep an eye on the thread daily.

Cheers Steve

Harry00 26-04-18 21:58

:icon_cry: Bad news for me guys, i cannot make it on those days, too little personell at work and holiday-period still at full throttle. Looks like this year i cannot visit any motorcycle meet at all. :icon_cry:

Anyway: Have fun out there! Hoping for better luck next year!

steveD 27-04-18 21:32

Update.................

Ok, thats the National Rally sorted. It will be at The Red Lion, at Llanafan fawr, 01597 860204 on the beautiful Beulah road. Dates are wknd 3rd and 4th August. Good beer and food in the pub, and some great roads for ride outs in the area. Camping is 5 a night, there are no showers, but there is a hut in the field with a toilet and sink.
Now, the pub also rents out the cottage next door which obviously would have a shower etc. The cost to book the cottage would be 140 for both nights and it is currently available for those dates. What are your views on booking the cottage and splitting the cost amongst all of us, so we have full facilities. also we could then draw lots for who gets to sleep in a bed, for a bit of fun http://www.thumperclub.com/smf/Smile...ult/smiley.gif

Put it in your diary and start planning.

Cheers Steve

Hey Harry, don't despair. Can you keep me updated on any meets over ther later on in the year and we can meet up for a few beers.

Cheers Steve

aliwakeskate 28-04-18 00:43

I am going to try and make this one. Been a member on here for a number of years and never managed to make one of these meets!

Just out of interest, the thumper club... is that the same one Tim from over the waters in Northern Ireland is a member of?

Of course i will keep you informed Steve, was really nice to have you in our Dutch mid last year too! Will send you a PM with dates of 2 events that will put a big smile on your face!
But it really looks like i will not be at ANY meeting this year... That really sucks!

But 3 august is on a friday.... You don't mean arrive friday evening 3rd and pack up sunday 5th by any chance? That would make all the difference for me! I choose camping of course, a no-brainer for me.

I come out of nightshift on friday 3rd. Could hit the road directly after my nightshift, take a nap on the ferry and arrive late friday evening if that is an option. Only 710 km single trip so that's an easy one.

All hope is not lost yet....:115:

Hey Harry, I will probably be there for the Thursday just to have a break and go home Sunday to make a mini break of it. A fantastic area and I will try and organise a bit of ruff stuff for you!

Steve

aliwakeskate 29-04-18 14:35

Great stuff! I had the pleasure of riding with young Tim in Morocco last year!

Probably the coolest looking dude on a motorbike I've ever met. Hopefully he'll be at the Thumper/XT rally in Wales! Say hi from me (Al) if you bump into him online!

Yes Timbo will be there. We've met at a few winter meets this year already and just been to Ireland for a few days. He's come over to live here now so you'll get the oportunity to see him around.

Cheers Steve

Harry00 30-04-18 02:09

Count me in after all! I will arrive friday evening i guess, and pack my bags on sunday morning.
Will be 2 of us, Renee is coming too.

And i took the liberty of posting this one on the forum of Tenere.nl. See if there will be any more from this group.

aliwakeskate 30-04-18 19:31

I couldn't go to his meet in Ireland the other week, lack of funds in the biking jar unfortunately. Would love to have headed over for the craic.

Didn't realise he was coming over here to live. I'll have to drop him a line!

steveD 30-04-18 22:30

WOW.....................................1434 views and just a couple of people interested in the Annual meet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C'mon people lets have a bit more interest and get a few more signed up to this.

Cheers Steve

Hey Steve,

sorry, it's too far for me to go on a weekend trip. Almost 2000 miles...

I'm happy to be back when a meeting takes place in the southeast of England.

See u
