Handlebar weights or no weights?

I'd like to add handguards to my XTX. With the Yamaha original handguards you can keep the handlebar weights but are expensive. The Acerbis are cheaper but you have to remove the weights in order to fit them.

Has anyone removed the weights to fit handguards? How does it feel without the weights?

I had the same questions..I took mine off and fitted some ebay specials..tried Acerbis ones too(I had some new ones but didnt like the colour)..

I filled the bars with silicon and whilst I do notice some vibes its not to bad.

Barkbuster hand guards come with a small weight for the Tenere with an additional external weight as an accessory. If you have standard bars they may well fit your bike.

handlebar wieghts

I fitted barkbusters and noticed increased vibes a set of handle bar weights that fit over the bar end will dampen them down again.

Thanks for your answers. From what you are saying I understand that the weights are good to have. i'll keep my eyes pealed for a good deal of the Yamaha handguards.

you could always look at Kev's handlebar weight mod..its internal...

Mine vibrates the bars and shakes it's head with the bar end weights removed.
I've got Bark Busters on so the weights had to come off.
Don't mind, the vibration stops me over-revving and the head shake reminds me to lean over and load up the front tyre when cornering.

I had them removed from my xt660x and had the acerbic had guards I never had a problem at all with them removed. And I have another xt660r with some on with no bar ends and that rides spot on ,In fact I have just ordered some from China for 23 and will put them on my new xt660r ( I have two) never had a problem with the bar ends removed and I do take the bike fast. If you can ride an xt fast

Ebay item number 232254474361 all you need is a longer Allan key bolt than the one in your Oem bar ends and you don’t need the insert it comes with unless you have Renthal bars. But quality is bloody good

nikroc 20-12-17 22:22

They are the same as mine..only mine are black..quality indeed

englishbandit 20-12-17 22:38

Yes they have them in black as well but are 32 ? And still a bloody good deal at that. These are the same as my old acerbis had guards probably out of the same factory as I know how the trade works

I got these Chinese handguards for my xt660z, look like Barkbusters.

https://m.aliexpress.com/s/item/3280...Z5NC4#autostay

They are for 22mm -7/8 handlebars although seller description says for 28mm.
The only matter is the mounts, Barkbusters gives (for xt660z) some other sape mounts, on the Chinese kit are like L, Barkbusters are like straight.
And for this the handguards are very close-they hit the windscreen.

But i believe they would fit perfect on xt660x/r.
