Failed Connector
 

Hey people hows it going ?

My bike went through a little fit when trying to start it the other day when it was idling I turned the handlebars it would cut out and the dash would look like I turn the key off

On Further Inspection later that day ( After working out it was a Wire/Connection problem) I found the ignition Connector thats under the tank was full of water when I opened the connector so green powder full out and I noticed One of the pins had corroded and broke off in the female end

As a temporary fix until the Christmas opening times settle I was just going to connect the wires together without the connector (which is screwed) Is this ok for a short temp fix ?

I'm a sure a good clean up and some tightly fixed electrical tape will suffice as a temporary measure for a while but a long term sort out will be needed.

If the connector has a broken pin then I cant see that you have no other option but to directly connect them together.

I have used the crimp on 5p connectors successfully. I am us at soldering!!

the electrics on these bikes are awful for this.

As the better fix I'd either remake the entire block or just strip it all back and clean it then crimp on a new set of pins and heat shrink them and then tape them up and forget them.

Well got the connector sorted for now

But low and behold it's not starting there is a random clicking sound from what I think is the relay area possible dead relay

yep, sounds like the starting relay, this could be caused by a weak battery, it might not be the starting solenoid. Check the battery first, do a load test if you can to see if it is supplying enough voltage for long enough to keep the relay engaged.

Charged the battery last but was still a little ****y to start lol I have a spare regulator/rectifier so I'm going to swap that and and hopefully it slims the possible problems

Would I be right in saying as well that if there was shorting going on it could damage the regulator/rectifier ?

Not sure about shorting out casuing problems for the regulator/rectifier

Have you checked the earth leads? If these are in poor condition then it could cause your starting problem, you should look for the earth strap from the battery -ve terminal to the frame/engine and the starter motor earth. Would also be worth checking the starter solenoid connections for being lose or corroded.

Cheers dealers taking a look tomorrow I had a spare regulator sitting about changed it over and it sounded healthier lol but hopefully nothing major
