XTR shock removal
Ok so you'll know it's something I've been looking to do.
Now I've read the manual a few times now and honestly it looks like a total ball ache of a job. Any hints tips or short cuts anyone can offer? |
Not really. Just face up to the fact you have to take half the bloody bike apart to get to the top mount and get on with it! ;)
I take it you bought a YSS in the end? |
The YSS is still the plan. But we had a new addition to the family last week so been a little shy on time while everyone adjusts and things settle down.

Congratulations mate! :occasion14:

Cheers mate.
The thing I don't get with what the manual says is why remove the silencers on the XTR as they mount on the frame? |

Well last night I placed my order for the shock and with spare time being at a premium I'm. Booked in at my local Yamaha dealer to do the fitting, also partly as my workshop is my driveway.

i swear the top shock bolt is the first one they put in when the XTR is assembled.....
what I did was drill a hole in the air box with a hole saw... removed the top shock bolt though it.... put a rubber gromet in the hole to block it... it's there for next time if needed... ... |
Pete do you have any pictures of the hole you made? I've seen it on the Z but not done on the R, if I can get enough useful pics it may save me a trip to the stealership.
