Rear shock..saggy as a saggy thing..

It's time to replace the rear shock, sagging heavily and with me on it even more. Steve on here provided me with some useful information on shocks provided to him by plieades I believe , but I'm going to admit I'm stuck which way to go!..Hopefully I will be entering some rally style events next year in the U.K. So I need something with adjustment, for once I think I'm pretty stumped on what way to go !..

If you're going to do more specialist riding than the normal mix of road and some trails, and if you don't know which way to go, then you probably wouldn't go far wrong getting some specialist advice on improving the whole package to suit, front and rear. Most decent suspension specialists, such as FTR (Bury St. Edmunds) who I used, will be more than happy to give free advice. The outcome need not be expensive either. For example, you can do a lot with the stock forks to make them very effective, and probably as good as most secondhand donor USD conversions (unless that is they have had some money and time thrown at them and been properly setup, resprung and revalved etc).

Don't guess what you think you need. Go and get some professional advice. It'll save you a lot of money, hassle and time in the long run.

Down your way I have heard good things of Steve Jordan in Surrey and MH Suspension in Wiltshire.

Thanks plieades for the advice...good stuff as usual!..the Nitron shocks look good.

PDQ Developments in Slough talked me into buying a Nitron shock. Decided not to buy through them in the end, bought direct from Nitron and I fitted it myself.

They asked me a few questions, regarding my height and weight (single rider, luggage or pillion), then chose a shock for me. It was delivered ready to go.

Can't remember which model I have, but it's very similar to the Sachs shock, with only a ring to adjust preload.

Ohlins 46DR1..... for the basic start point
has spring preload & rebound damping adjustment...
then yer can add the remote later if yer wish
for Hi / lo speed compression damping adjustment...

nice unit....
On the XTR i had to use the 46DR1 with the remote
hanging on a hose... no room for a fixed remote...

Good choice thats what i got too. Cracking shock but not sure why there is 20 odd clicks for compression damping against 60 clicks for rebound damping!! Just make sure you keep a record of adjustments you make jo75! :coolsmiley:
