TT High seat
We'll I thought i'd never be happy until I tried this one. So I said good bye to my TT standard height seat (now riding around Sweden somewhere) and thanks to Crofty I'm now 2 inches taller. We'll first things I noticed (I'm exactly 6ft tall) is I can't put my heels on the ground when seated standing still, although the back settles lower than when you initially get on. The next observation is cornering is a bit stranger as your are not so low and sitting in the bike. Both these I can get used to, no problem. I have only done a few short trips but the big advantage (for me) is that my knees are not that bent (and this is where on a long ride 3 hrs+) fatigue started getting me. I am pretty sure that this together with being able to move forward and backward will make the Tenere much more of a long distance tourer (in my opinion). For short rides the standard seat is fine and perhaps even a bit nicer through loads of twisties, but for me this is the keeper.

The dip in the standard seat looks huge in a side by side photo like the one you've posted Jacque. ...and the new seat looks very comfy! Steve

I would be lucky to get my toes on the ground with that seat....

Once you're underway you don't notice anymore my givi high screen is not so high anymore

High seat
That seats looks great but I am on my toes with the standard seat. Your bike will fit you like a glove soon, you just need handlebar risers to balance it up and your sorted.
|
I've never really considered risers. I still find the handlebar very comfortable both seated and standing. Just loosened the clutch and front brake housings and tilted them down a bit. Also means they just swivel and don't snap when you fall
|
Nice one Jacques, looks pretty cool.
For us slightly shorter blokes it's not an option, but I do agree with you even at 5'10" my knees are pretty bent when riding. I can just imagine how you would feel. One disadvantage of the standard seat I found is that when you try to sit a bit further back against the ridge, you tend to slide forward, pulling your crotch in and sort of pinching your ..... you know what I mean. With a flatter seat that is reduced or eliminated. |
Glad its working out for you Jacques. I could probably have just about about lived with it when I fitted the lowering links but when I put my airhawk on it was too much. The standard one I have now is going to Tony Archer to have the bump removed and flatted so that should help me move around a bit more.
|
I have seen one with the bump gone and that's the best of both worlds. Show us once its finished. There is one on a bike down here in Hampshire, the owner was lucky enough to buy the bike with it already done. When I enquired about a price it was way more than even the TT seat!
|
Did you try a Gel insert Jacque. ...I've often wondered if they work. ..? Steve
|
I will get back when its finished Tony Archer has modded seats for me for two or three bikes always been reasonable, we'll see
|
No I haven't, but they would do the same as your airhawk.

Hey guys, just one suggestion from experience - try to avoid at all costs lowering the suspension. I did this on my first XTX and even had the side stand shortened too, and the result is good in terms of town riding and traffic and things. But as soon as you get out of town the handling is awful and the bike scrapes everything at the first corner!!!!!!
|
I've also gone down the tt road with a slightly used seat at a fair price
I ride the abs version so is was not that high originally and i can still reach the road with both feet at the same time (but i have 36" leg length so a bit longer than average) I'm very happy with it and it is much better than the standard seat - it is worth the price ? I'm not so sure ... http://www.tenere.dk/forumnew/upload...25_cropped.jpg Pictures down this page if the link to the pictures does not work http://www.tenere.dk/forumnew/forum_posts.asp?TID=6488 |
Hi seat story
Nice to see a "seat" story for taller riders :smilies0948: Putting 2" of lift into my standard seat along with an airhawk, the sore knees while riding are "no more". :icon_cool: |
TT high seat.
Mine was bought as a brand new seat from a chap on ebay who put it on once and found it far too high. I gave £300 for it.
Bit late in replying to this thread but needed to get a few miles in before giving my findings. I'm 6ft and can no longer put both feet flat on the floor but it only takes a few trips to get used to that. My arse doesn't go on fire after 50 miles nor do my knees ache as they did with the standard seat. Is it worth the price? To me it certainly is, many hours are spent in the saddle and if you are constantly hotching about to relieve the discomfort then long rides become something to be avoided in the end. I rode with an Airhawk for a lot of the time and tried a saddle with gel pads and found the Airhawk better as you can adjust it to suit. I'm a crusty now and bike riding needs to be more enjoyment and less endurance if you're going to still put the miles in. I'm glad I bought mine and would recommend it for taller riders. Pete. |
