Tail Tidy Consensus

is there a consensus as to the most commonly used tail tidy?..im wanting to sort the ugly arse end on mine and looking for inspiration and hopefully pictures...

nikroc 26-09-16 22:31

Sorry ...mines an 'R'....but thanks

I'm looking for a tail tidy for my X as well. There are various tail mods with photos in the forums, just search for "tail tidy".

To buy, I only found the one from off-the-road.de but with that price I'm still looking at pics from members hoping to find something easy enough for me to do.
Here's the link: http://www.off-the-road.de/en/XT-660...XT-660R-X.html

Appreciate the response. I have searched the forum and found various threads and images of differing tidies.
Im not wanting to pay OTR prices either tbh and have found a few i like the look of but haven't seen these on an X or R. And they are universal so placement of indicators and proximity of the number plate and the exhausts etc are an unknown factors

I'll post pictures of what I've found .

I just choped the tail light of my R and stuck a WR450 rear guard on...
looks like a dirt bike now.. well the arse anyway...

I've seen those on eBay, they look good but I don't how straightforward the installation is. I assume some slight modification is needed.

If you do manage to fit one though, it'd be great to have a few info about how you did it. :)

I'd also be interested to see some pictures if anyone has fitted one of these to an x as they look a tidy unit, some even have the indicators built in to the light

nikroc 05-10-16 13:52

A mates bike failed the MOT due to the indicators being in the rear light unit.

Went for this one, good price and delivered. Polisport is supposed to be reasonable quality even tho it looks like the cheaper ones.

As soon as I get it ill be offering it up and seeing how/where the number plate will fit(or not) and order a plate

Pictures will be posted.

On a slight tangent,it is rear end related, the rear tailpiece has lost its reflective look..any ideas how to restore it?..

I went for the S-moto tail tidy. The good thing about it is, that the tail has some flex in it. Which is good on a mono engine.

It's design has one flaw though, which can be corrected easily. By default, the taillight is only fastened at the top. But with a few nuts, bolts n brackets from the hardware store, you can mount the bottem part of the taillight too.

I wrote S-moto about this and they would look into it. Still haven't heard from them. So far for aftersales :)

You can read more about this tail tidy in my topic: http://www.xt660.com/showpost.php?p=212959&postcount=34

The tidy arrived in double quick time...its tiny!!!

Measures 13"/330ml x 4"/100mm and more importantly(for me) the number plate area is angled at approx 8 o'clock. It would be unreadable on the road and I would have thought would be an instant 'pull' from the police.Esp with the smaller plate it would need to fit between the exhaust pipes.

I contacted the seller who suggested i could heat it up/cut and bend it to the angle i desire...errr...

I look forward to see how it will look installed. Good luck and take some pics of the operation. [emoji106]

Im not installing it to small and Im not cutting it hoping it will do what I want.

It will be sorted however

I thought for 16.00 id try and fit the ebay special. 6 hours later.....

I basically cut the length of it down and then removed the sides with a dremel tool.

The original angle of the number plate bracket was too acute so I scored the back of it and used a heat gun to apply a little heat and bent it to angle I wanted.

I then sandwiched it between the original undergaurd and its mounting points. I then drilled four holes and attached with nuts and bolts.

I was fortunate in that the aftermarket indicators are smaller and they fit perfectly with clearance between the exhaust cans.

A smaller number plate is next BUT Im more than happy with the end result.

16.00 well spent!!

Good work - Where there's a will, there's a way! :023:

May I ask why you went to the trouble of masking the number plate on your XT, but left the number plate on the ZRX in full view? Might be worth pulling the attachments, photoshopping them and uploading again?

im not that bothered n thought the white plate would make it stand out more. You can make the reg out. i was using the plate off my TTR 600 e to gauge sizes, holes etc.

nikroc 14-10-16 19:16

And tbh I dont know how to!!

It turned out great. Good job! And for the price unbeatable.

Is there a white/clear bit under the stoplight to illuminate the license plate?

nikroc 16-10-16 13:10

No...but the plates nicely lit up by the leds..very bright lights and stop light.

I'm afraid the Swedish MOT will not approve if there is no specific license light. And I want something permanent since I already have to change the cans to pass MOT.

Anyway I was lucky enough to find locally someone who had the tail tidy from off-the-road.de. He had the XT for sale and I asked if he wanted to make some extra cash by selling the tail tidy separately, which he did.

So I got it for ~110, only with a couple months of use. Still not cheap but better priced.

This is how it looks. The pictures on the website don't show it's real shape actually.

I will couple that with a license plate holder from AliExpress and some led indicators. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9a5c6e7701.png
