Difference between the 2004 & 2007 XTX

Difference between a 2004 to 2006 & 2007 XT660X

Looks 2007
New tank side covers
New fuel tank mounts points for side covers
New radiator grill
New rear foot pegs
New rear grab handNes
New head light & cowling
New Swinging arm
New Swinging arm chain guide
New exhaust heat shields
New radiator hose clamps

New chain adjusters
New frame protectors by your feet.

Running gear

2007 XTX
Length 2,175mm
Width 865mm
Height 1,170mm
Seat Height 875mm
Weight 177 KGS fully fuelled & oil 186KGS

2004 XTX
Length 2.150mm
Width 860mm
Height 1,210
Seat Height 870mm
Weight 173KGS

Rear wheel travel has been reduced for the 2007 XTX from 200mm to 191mm

There is now a 2nd speed rating for the XTX to include 58H & 58W speed rated tyres

We will be seeing different tyre brands on our new bikes from Yamaha, Michelin/Radial Pilot Sport, Metzerler/Sportec M1 & current Pirelli Dragon.

XTR running gear, remains the same spec as 2004.

Motor applies to both XTX & XTR

2007 XTX has a different Engine ECU part number ending with 10. Remapped fuel injection using lambda control.

2007 model has done away with the twin spark feature & now has single spark function.
2007 XTX ignition timing has been reduced from 9 deg at 1500RPM to 5 deg

2007 Min idle speed has been raised from 1300min to 1400 RPM

2007 Torque is up from 58.4Nm to 60 Nm at 5250RPM

2007 now has a O2/ lambda sensor

Fault code 24 will be displayed on dash if O2 sensor is unplugged.
Diag code 31 will display if the fuel mixture is to lean.
Diag code 32 will display if the fuel mixture is to rich

No real time display mode in Diag screen for the O2 sensor
Lambda probe has 4 wires, 2 wires for lambda heater 12 volts input, wattage to be determined & a 2 wire lambda control 5 volts input, output voltage & amps still to be determined. Fuel mod pending info.

There are new min wear spec's for the oil pump on the 2007, it may have a new pump or they have revised the min clearances. I will be able to tell once I get the parts manual.

There is also a new ID mark for the throttle body on the 2007 5VK8-10 & 2004 5VK1-00. Can't see what has changed on the throttle body.

Revised torque settings for all engine mounting bolts on the 2007.

Wiring is the same on both bikes except for the addition of the O2 sensor wiring on the 2007 model.

I'm sure there are more improved items on the 2007 model, I will add them as I find them.

Rear wheel travel

yamaha says Rear wheel travel has been raised for the 2007 XTX from 191mm to 200mm ?!?!?!?

You will find that is a typing error on their website, like when they said the bike has a wet sump and instead is a dry sump. It happens. The manual that me and Kev have provides the correct informations.

Could You please explain a bit more those diag codes 31 & 32 ?
I have a 2007 R and don't have those codes (I havent changed nothing on my bike yet either).

A 2007 XTX/R with lambda probe will have these diagnostic codes 31 & 32.

If the fuel mixture is out of the range of the lambda probe, meaning it is unable to adjust the fuel mixture back to it's preset value. A fault code will be displayed on the dash 31 or 32. You will then know in what direction to diagnose the fault.

I don't know.
I have xt660r 2007 with lambda probe but no 31 and 32 diag codes ?!?
Unless those are error codes ?

Code 31 & 32 are error codes & will only show on the dash if there is a problem with the fuel mixture being to rich or to lean.

Question

Hi Kev
I wonder if the new swing arm will fit on my 06 model? Beacuse its the only thing like about the new model..

Kev 07-11-07 04:14

Not sure if it would fit.

I came across a interesting change between the 06 & 07 models yesterday. I found that the 07 model ignition system has changed from a twin spark motor to a single spark motor.

What this all means, is we have the 04 to 06 models with a twin spark motor for emission control the spark plug fires every time the piston reaches TDC (That's all the way to the top) For 07 models onwards we have a motor with a O2 sensor, they have done away with this twin spark feature. The spark plugs should last longer on the 07 onwards models.

The way I found out, I was playing with my rev counter & found that it was set to single spark & I know for a fact my 04 model was set to twin spark.
A word of warning, not all rev counters will be compatible with the 07 onwards models, so check with the seller before you buy your rev counter that it will work on 4 strokes.
