Michelin Pilot Street Radial
Just trying these tyres for the first time and so far so good. They were a bit squirmy at high speeds while scrubbing them in but now seem fine after 500 miles or so. Based on the Michelin touring tyres I brought these in the hope of getting better mileage than the 3k per rear I have been getting from more sporty tyres like diablos and sportsmarts I had previously. Will be riding to Italy through the Swiss alps in less than 2 weeks time which will be the real test. So far not done much wet weather riding (for a change) but they seem pretty grippy and stop the bike fast too. Take a bit longer to warm up than the sporty tyres but that's a compromise I am willing to make for better mileage.

Be interested to know how they hold up in the wet. I've been looking at the road pilot 4 but they are a bit pricey

3000 miles out of a Sport Smart how the hell have you managed to get that many,I'm hard pressed to see 17/1800 miles out of a RoadSmart

Perhaps the Sportsmart 2's wear better than the orignals? I got about 3k+ miles from both the 2 rear sportsmart 2 tyres I had and I wasn't particularly easy going on them, even done a good 500 miles or more 2 up on the last one. The front one was pretty **** by the time I replaced them with the middle harder compound section wearing far less than the softer edges causing slight wobble at low speeds.
These pilot streets are one of only 8 H speed rated tyres that I could find to fit the XTX, the other 7 are all sporty tyres. H rated tyres are inherently cheaper than W rated ones. However the pilot streets are marketed by Michelin as made for small to medium sized bikes and are single compound so it remains to be seen how many miles I will get on the XT. |
I currently have 5 bikes on the go from my XT to a BM XR all of them are run on Dunlops Sport Smarts F/R or the odd Qaulifier in the UK and Road Smarts on the rear for Europe the one thing I can assure you the Sport Smart 2 is absolutely pants compared to the original even Dunlop know it!!!
Currently run the XT with a Qaulifier on the front and RoadSmart on the back |

Well I recently replaced my rear tyre after 5600 miles and I am impressed. Almost double the mileage and I spent a lot of miles with either lots of luggage or a passenger. I can't fault these tyres for the price they are great. Rode every weather condition expect snow and they've not skipped a beat. Take slightly longer to warm up than sportier tyres I've had but it's a good compromise for the extended mileage. I would definitely recommend them.
