cheers

ended up dropping into Yamaha dealer and they popped the seal out even though the mechanic was kind of guessing what he was doing. then I got it all put back together again.

The corrosion was a bit of a concern to me. id never changed the coolant so I'm assuming it was the same from the factory so around 6 years or so old. I did have to run the cooling system on pure water for a weekend to get it home then I stripped the water pump. My mechanic pretty much rubbed off the corrosion and I mentioned it and he didn't seem to have any concerns

just got it all back together and done a bit test run and all seems ok

did see a second hand one on ebay for about 50 I was thinking about it but again haven't a clue what the condition of its like but its suppose to have come from a 5k miles bike

Not really worth worrying about now you've got it all back together. You'll just have to see how it all holds up over time.

The main thing is, you've got it going again and it's watertight.

It might be worth penciling in a regular two-yearly coolant change in your diary though! ;)

Well all seems to be holding after a good run out on sunday to a local motorbike race east of edin. 200miles in one day plus a few spirited moments/high revs/hot engine.

Yes now I know its actually quiet easy to do its something ill be happy to do now.

Slowly getting a bigger and bigger list of things I can do on the bike which always makes me happy as then I know how to do it, fix it, or if something goes wrong what it is
