Overland event
Any other forum members heading to the Overland Event next Sunday. .? Near Oxford. ..Steve
|
I'll be there but in a cage as my bike is still in the States. Look out for the urine coloured Toyota Yaris
|
Would have loved to, but currently stuck in the wilds of Scotland.
Probably make it to the HU weekend at Haggs Bank, though. |
Shame away this weekend and it's only about 10mins from home😢

Same here. Away for the weekend too. How did I miss this one?

I'll be there
I'll be there manning the TRF stand on Friday afternoon & setting up again Saturday. Oxford TRF are leading ride outs on Saturday and Sunday. Pop over to stand 21 and check it out 😄

So with a strapped up and dodgy knee I set off in wet and windy weather to Oxford for the Overland Event. ...only to arrive there and be told they are sold out!, and no amount of persuading would get me a ticket. As I stood there deciding what to do another guy on a blue Tenere arrived...same problem. I didn't get a chance to speak to him I'm afraid, but he looked as hacked off as me. At that point Jenny Morgan, JMo of this forum , Dakar rider and Baja competitor and all round good person came past and on seeing my situation tried to help. As they still wouldn't let me in she went off and returned with a pot of freshly brewed coffee and we spent the next hour talking all things Tenere /XR650R /Baja etc...heaven! Jenny had to get back to her stand, and as I was working out a plan Spencer Conway of African Diaries came along. ..we talked Tenere of course, and how well his Ten had done on the journey. At this point I could have just 'drifted' into the event ticketless. ...but I just didn't want to risk any awkwardness for the various people that had tried to help/get me in. Next year...ticket bought in advance! ! . Took the long way home and had a great three hour ride. Steve

Not a complete loss then Steve. Some people really restore your faith in humanity with the lengths they go to when trying to help a fellow biker out.

Well I hate to rub salt in the wound but it was one of the best meets I have been to. Had a fantastic time meeting friends old and new with some great talks and drinking to be had. A friend of a friend rode in from Wales and was turned back. We had a word with Paddy and was told it was due to licensing laws. Once they sold out of their ticket numbers, that was that! They weren't expecting so many people to show up, about twice as many as last year. He will be addressing this issue for next years event. Only saw 3 or four Z's there and once again didn't bump into any owners, still yet to meet anyone off the forum.

Hey Ukbri, glad you had a great event...I'm definitely buying my ticket in advance next year!. How long are you in the UK for....? Steve
