Front sprocket nut size?

So guys, I realise that this question has been asked before. I have read previous threads about it but cannot find the answer I am looking for.

I ride a 2007 XTX, I am trying to change my sprockets and chain, and have run into a snag of sorts.

Previous threads state a 32mm socket is required for the front sprocket nut, I went to the local Halfords and got myself one. Got home ready to press on and my new 32mm socket is too small? Did Yamaha change the nut at some point?

That's odd? 32mm would appear to fit my Tenere as far as I can see to fit on the nut with the safety tab still folded over onto the nut.

Yes, 32mm is correct. I have been a bit of a spaz, I realised this morning that the washer was in the way. Sorry for the bone question!
