Yamaha XT660R Aftermarket exhaust

Hi all,

I have a 2007 Yamaha XT660R with twin Wrex exhaust Cans on. The bike sounds amazing with these fitted, although they are making the bike run too rich on fuel. I have been experiencing a lot of popping on the roll off sound and I need to find a way of making the fuel/air mixture leaner.

I have been advised by a dealer that the bike needs to have a power commander in order to temper with the ECU, but appears to be very expensive

Can anyone help?

to stop the popping disconect or block off the AIS system..
i done it with the standard yamaha pipes but was so well
baffled it was hard to hear,,,
you can put kev's fuel controller on it to adjust the
fuel/air ratio...lot cheaper than a power comander...

Not by much it ain't,see a secondhand PC today didn't make 130 quid even less than what I paid for mine some years ago.

I personally like the popping sound (my bike is factory original) but if yours is too much, loud or objectionable, then other than PC, moding the O2 sensor feedback look can give you a fixed fuel mixture which can be set to leaner.

I believe a mod produced by Kev would allow you to alter the A/F setting

the popping is there because of the unburnt fuel being deliberately ignited. If you remove this feature, then your exhaust will stink of petrol and anybody behind you will get high on the fumes:sign4:

Your bike will not be running 'rich' just because you've fitted end cans. If anything they are more likely to make it run lean! There is no need to modify the fuelling with your exhaust (obviously you can if you want to, but it's not necessary).

As those above have alluded to, you're not hearing/noticing anything that wasn't there already - it's just become more pronounced and noticeable because your exhaust is louder. The popping is just the AIS system doing the same job it was before.

Just block the AIS pipe as has already been mentioned, which is free! ;)
