The tkc is a great tyre, have used it myself,at the moment I'm using Mitas e10,and they even strugle on the wet chalky mud around here, but yes your right pressure plays a huge part!..that is really a personal thing I think, and riding standing up is key on a tenere ,it builds great confidence ...

My confidence definitely took a battering last time out , don't mind falling off when I know why ie cross rutted etc but on 3 occasions the front tucked when going in a relatively straight line standing and sitting? This was on wet soft sand/mud and could see no signs of hidden tree roots etc, the lads I was with both run ktm's and had no problems! The tenere is definitely heavy on the front which does'nt help and I'm not 20 anymore and sitting back and gunning it is not an option ha ha.

I find the same with the Tenere. ...once that front has 'tucked' out from under you a few times it makes you a bit over cautious. ...( A) I don't want to ding my lovely bike.. (B) I don't bounce as well as I used to!. As Jo says standing up and over the front end makes a huge difference, although until you get used to it you feel that if you do wipe out you have even farther to fall!. It's a compromise. ..to have that on road , long distance luggage carrying ability you end up with some size and weight. I noticed Jacque le Roux of this forum had great off road technique and flew up Chalkpit lane. I start off my trail rides with this fantasy in my head of skimming along .. hopping from rut to rut.... drifting out of gravel bends....popping wheelie after wheelie!....sadly the reality is very different! ! BUT...I love it ! Steve

Thanks for your kind words Steve. In reality it probably had far more to do with my more off road orientated tyres than your more road biased tyres. As for the standing, it was partly because of numb bum.
But the standing is actually to get some weight off the back wheel. By moving your weight forward and backward you can control the amount of traction and stop the wheel spinning, which is what you're trying to avoid. The chalk was dry that day, I suspect going up there when its wet will be very very different. A bike under power handles well and easily, its when you tap off, especially going down hill that it can get hairy.

Know what you mean Steve , watching the experts make it look easy is bloody frustrating .
Jo we will have to try and arrange a day we can both do , I work 4 on 4 off so can do weekdays in August and the odd Sunday if your still up for it ?
Pain I know , cheers Mark

Hi joe , would be good to get shown the trails have to arrange a day best for both of us , afraid I work 4 on 4 off so may take some sorting ! Ref the tyre I use a tkc80 which is fine in the dry on the sandy mud around thetford but when wet the front has washed out with no warning? Thinking of trying a mittas c19 or Pirelli mt21? Also need to play with tyre pressures run 24psi did'nt want to go much lower to avoid punctures! Someone with more experience may know better?
Cheers Mark

Personally i run army special up front for all trail riding 20psi, great in mud. Ive had TKC 80 before but found them terrifying on anything other than gravel and tarmac. I usually trail ride with KTM crew so need a proper offroad tire.
In the rear i switch between E09 for dry weather and trail rides with lots of road miles in between.

Army special for ricky ttails like in the dales,

C02 for the mucky stuff. Its a real earth mover that tire.

Hi Jon,have you used the co2 before, looking at giving it a try myself?..when this tyre gets worn out..
