Spare Parts Purchase
Hi guys,
I live in the UK. What is the best online shop to buy spare parts for my xt660z ? I traveled to the Scottish Borders yesterday and I dropped the bike like an idiot. I did not notice one of those many ditches that they have at the side of the road. Bike is fine but I lost the windscreen and broke all the plastic screws that keep it in place. thanks Frank |
Hi Frank
Sorry to hear your news; hope you bounced OK!!! The little plastic screws are designed to shear at impact. I really don't understand this as all my other bikes have the screens very well bolted to the rest of the infrastructure! I've been getting all my parts from here: https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/...nere-2008.aspx taking advantage of the strength of the to the Euro. After this week's disaster I may have to change that plan!! I've been getting parts from them since 2013 and there is sometimes a delay if the part is obscure and not in stock, but no complaints with them. |

Have you been on EBay today?

That windscreen on ebay looks great but mine is not broken.
The price of those plastic screws is ridiculous ! they are between 3 and 6 pounds each... a need 6. I am thinking to buy something made of metal from a hardware store and solve the problem today... Has anybody ever mod the windscreen attachment ? |
For online genuine parts in the UK use A.J. Sutton:
https://www.yamahamotorcyclespares.co.uk/ For pattern parts use Wemoto: http://www.wemoto.com/ As for the screen screws, just get stainless ones. Used them for the last eight years and never had an issue with a cracked screen in a fall. By the time you've factored in the cost of the plastic ones, and the fact the heads round off every time you undo/redo them (meaning you're forever replacing them), it works out cheaper to buy metal ones and just get a new screen should have an off and break it! |

Those original screws are the weakest I've ever seen in my life. When I mounted the headlight protector on my ten they broke off when I was easily screwing them tight. Would have definately lost that protector on the highway. I went to a hardware store and bought 12 screws or so for not even 5euro. I don't mind the stainless look. You can always paint them black. Easy, cheap and strong.

Screen screws
I have changed mine to stainless, but a little tip is to heat up a screwdriver tip of the right size, and hold it into the plastic screw. This will renew the rounded off sections

I've bought new plastic screws on this site:
http://www.off-the-road.de/en/XT-660...en-XT-660.html Pretty cheap compared to OEM. |
