How quick are they??
Hi all, I'm just about to buy a new xt660z, but of all the things I've learnt about them (and there's loads of info out there) I can't seem to find out how quick they accelerate?? Do they leave traffic comfortably behind at the lights?
Thanks in advance |
Easily

Definitely!..

Yamaha always had low end torque but lacking top end. Thats why not so much kw's but very reliable compared to for example ktm's. It might not be fast as ktm 690 at higher rpm's but should pull ahead in drag race as ive seen in videos.
It has more than enough to pull away from cars in traffic :) I compared it to KTM 690 cause I compared xt660r vs 690r before I bought xt660z. Also check youtube videos, theres plenty of xt660 acceleration videos and hill race vs ktm :) |
how fast are they
Hi I will also add that they keep up with the fast traffic on motorways easily, 80mph cruising will be no problem and I have spoken to a guy who has held a steady 90 mph for hours on holiday abroad with no problems.

660 into one cylinder? You need to learn to keep the front wheel down.
I tell you a story... I went on a ride on my XT660X with 6 of my mates all on sport bikes, GSXR, Ninja's, Yamaha R6, Honda RR's and similar. We decided to take a nice scenic sets of B roads from Richmond to Box Hill, very few straight lines just twisted roads corner to corner. The bike was quite new in 2004 and when I arrived at Box Hill, some man approached me and asked me so how do these new XT's fair on the roads? Well within the next 2 minutes as I was taking my helmet and gloves off, the 6 friends all pulled in in the car park shaking their heads and I told this guy see that lot? We all started together in Richmond less than an hour ago! They just caught up with me now :) |
Horsepower is only part of the equation. How light is the bike, how much of the power does it put on the road and how does it handle the route. A lot of variables. I have no desire to change at all.

I was leaning away from the 660z till I read your replies, thanks all.
Also watched a vid on YouTube from some Aussie!!! Dealers in the morning 👍👍 |
the R has a 0~60 of around 5 sec so provided you can keep the front down, you can dance with smaller super sport cars.
In fact you can extend this to 80mph if your change gear is spot on and avoid the brick like limiter. Beyond this aerodynamics and not enough horses start to slow you down |
