Go pro advice please..

Just after some advice with the Go Pro...when I take the memory card out of the go pro and put it in my smartphone and play back what I've filmed it's all sharp and clear...but when I upload the footage to You Tube it seems to lose a lot of clarity, is this because I'm uploading from my phone.... ? I'd appreciate any info, thanks Steve

Youtube compressing the quality of the footage, something to do with memory.

I edit videos with gopro studio in laptop. Then convert file and use "YouTube quality".
Files from the gopro are always bigger in size vs the full video I edited. Also for example I uploaded file with size of 100mb and then I download it from youtube and it was just 70mb's. So youtube downgrades your video quality alot.

Edited videos in gopro studio are not so bad compared to original files.

It's not just me then!!, but it's annoying when your original footage is crystal clear. And Jo.....there was about 2hrs on the 16gig card ...so I guess that's OK. Steve

Ok Steve,it's definitely YouTube if you look at the one I posted that's definitely lost clarity..

But how come on some of the channels on YouTube....like the Icon films....Robbie Madison etc the clarity is there.. ? , and a lot of there footage is shot on Go Pro . Steve

Like I said before: editing and using right good codecs for converting. You can edit video clarity, color temperature, shadows etc in video editing software.

If you upload ur original file then youtube converts it to downsize your video.

If my original video is like 2gb then edited video is maybe 500-700mb.

My DSLR camera raw photos are 32mb and after editing they are 12mb.

So edit your videos, just 1 hour driving videos are boring anyway and way too long for today standards. Nobody got time to watch that long videos :)
Even i dont want to watch my own videos for hours, i keep the good parts only.

"You tubes settings are so that when you upload a large bandwith file it is automatically compressed loosing a lot of clarity. This is mainly because You Tube would like to keep it's bandwidth usage down so that the most people can upload and watch videos. "
