just got a new silver n blue tenere ..thinking of fitting a givi crash bar..the 2 i am thinking of wrap round the front and tank down to the coolant tank.one of then has an additional loop round the tank plastic protector..any opinions please ...are they too heavy ? not needed? ..which suit the bike best?

You don't need crash bars really, but I would strongly recommend the adventure spec bash plate its the dogs @#�%&. The standard tank protectors and the pillion foot peg brackets act as crash bars, the tenere is a really tough price of kit.

I can vouch for that....the Ten is a tough bike!. With just a few hundred miles on mine I was punted off by a crazy car driver ....3 bust ribs for me...not a mark on the Tenere . I have dropped it a few times since off road...still unmarked . But the Adventure Spec bash plate is a fine piece of kit. Steve

Another thumbs up for me!..it's one tough bike, I put mine through some serious off road use and she gets dropped a few times!..that adventure spec bash plate is on my never ending list!..

I use mine extensively on trails through out the year in Spain,France and Morocco (coming up to 60,000kms)

In the way of protection I only have a bash plate,water pump guard and brush guards fitted and have dropped mine a few times with just the odd scrape on the side protectors.

I bought a sump guard ( �30 off ebay) which has plenty of dings in it from rock trails but if I was to buy it again I'd look for one that covers the water pump for sure. The trails here and in Maroc are usually dry with rock and one hit on the water pump side and you're goosed.

The protection I have will tear off the bolts if it gets a big impact and I'd prefer a different one when money is available.

If it were I and you're using the moto for trails I'd skip the crash bars and prioritise with other protection first?

Or go for the crash bars if you've the money.

just in case - i've laying around the small and the big protectors from SW Motech at home. Brandnew and never mounted - just in case you're looking for them. If someone interested please send me a pm.
I've never mount them on my bike.

Agree with the (un)necessity of the crashbars. I had SW Motech crashbars on my Ten which caused extensive damage to my bike when I had a meeting with mother earth during an offroad trip. They caught on the ground while the bike was still moving and bent back, chipping the tappet cover and the tank, as well as damaging the side of the radiator frame. I asked the insurance not to replace them.
A decent bash plate and water pump protection makes more sense.

Agree with all but adventure spec gear. Rubbish!!!!!!!!

I make my own after my venture spec bash plate fid more damage than it saved

One of the biggest issues is too much weight with what is a fairly detuned engine. But this is good if you want reliability. The steel frames weighs lots but is massively strong. Adding more steel bars makes a heavy package even heavier which translates to lower speeds and more consumption. By all means put bars on if you plan on falling and only ride in rocks, but I wonder how many of us use our bikes in this way.
