How did Exan do it?

Just had a quick first ride after putting on the Exan pipe. It is unbelievably quiet! How do they get a box that small to be so quiet? I just changed it from my twin Leo Vince pipes, mainly for weight saving. After seeing WeaveMcQuilts Exan last year, I always wanted one. Incidentally my Exan weighs more than 2kg's (P-mans one is 1.6kg, but that is perhaps only the back box) so a bit more than expected. It was difficult to say bye to my Leo Vinces, as I did like them, and having recently seen split Exans I was a bit concerned. Apparently Exan is replacing the broken one, so that put my mind at rest. The Vinces gave my bike more power (compared to stock) so will be interesting to see what the Exan does. But so far one happy bunny. Getting the middle LV pipe loose from the front pipes were one big job though, and had to revert to going to an engineering works. Time to play.

Hi Jacque , we need a photo of the bike with the new exhaust.....what are you doing with the Leo Vince system.. ? Steve

Mine's still going strong after two and a half years.

Steve's has been replaced by Exan and he opted for the black stainless as the replacement, which is ironically what I ordered but they didn't have one in stock! Personally I think the black ones look the best.

Mine (titanium) definitely weighed 1.64Kg including the link pipe. Maybe they've got heavier, more absorbent wadding inside them now? Maybe why yours is quiet? Maybe they use thicker sheet metal now to beef them up?

BTW, they get louder with use!

Hi Pliaedes, yes I agree the all black looks great. Sadly mine is like yours. I bought it on our for sale pages from a really nice bloke. Sadly now sold his XT. I also took his bash plate, so this rainy weekend was perfect for a play with my spanners.
Steve I will sell my Leo Vinces (begrudgingly) as I don't believe in keeping things that don't get used. But before I can do that I need to get a new bracket from Leo Vince, as I kept my old one which is far better (in my opinion) than the one that came with the Exan. And then it needs a really good clean. I'll do a few pics tomorrow weather permitting, so you can see the gaping big hole.

Now a gapping big hole. Never mind, you don't see it when you're riding. You can see the Leo Vince bracket in the second shot. Very well made and good solid mount. The Exan is quite long and sits quite far back.

Did you get the mounting bracket below the seat with the exhaust?

I have suspicion Exan varies what they deliver with the bike.

The nuts & bolts i got with the muffler were completely useless.

Pepsi, i was actually referring to le Roux. But your information will also be usefull for future buyers of GPR stuff

Sharing is caring ;)

Hi Jacques, How do the exan pipes compare to the leos is there any difference in performance between the two apart from noise?

Jacques le Roux 15-02-16 14:04

Hi you are absolutely right, the plate is rubbish. I just kept my Leo Vince plate (3mm plate) which fits beautifully on the old exhaust holes as mentioned before. I am now making a copy of the LV plate, so the LV pipes can be used again. Much better and solid than using bolts and spacers etc. I'll do some pictures on the weekend.

Hello Jacques, did you got to make the LV plate ?

If so could you provide a sketch with the measurements so I could make one for myself ?

I take my chances, and hope this question could fit into this thread:

For the Tenere, which of the Exans would be the most quiet one - assuming there are differences between them?

Thanks.

Nobody with a clue? :102:

Chev. 02-11-17 00:17

OK then, gather not that huge differences between them :happy11:

Exobio 02-11-17 09:06

Hi I have been writing with a guy at Exan, he claimed the X model is slightly more quiet than the oval, but the difference is minimal.

I am looking to buy the oval this week, only because of the way the look, performance should be the same..

Cheers
