Powder coated wheels/spokes

Has anyone has their wheels and spokes powder coated in their ten ??

My rims are starting to look at bit shabby.

I'm looking into the very same thing...my plans of snazzy new wheels have had to be reined in...so the next best option is to strip the wheel , get it powder coated , then send rim and hub off to be respoked with stainless spokes. The only potential problem is the turnaround of getting the wheel rebuilt...there are some good local wheel builders but they all seem to need the wheel /wheels for ages. Some of the bigger companies do an express service for an extra charge. Steve

Is stainless steel spokes as tough as steel? Just asking.

greatescape 29-01-16 21:28

Yes, of course Jo, I'm doing the wheels as soon as I can manage without the bike for a week or so... going for the classic gold rim as it should look good with the blue paintwork, classic XT colour scheme. And Jacque , there is a school of thought that stainless spokes don't have the 'give' in them that stainless do and that they need more frequently checking . I've had no problems with them on the XR650R over 5yrs...and that included getting airborne every week on my way home from work. ! . (Remind me Jo to show you the hump backed bridge at Merston...it's got a great bump in the tarmac on the left hand side Even a feeble rider like me can get airborne!!). Back to the spokes...those 5 year old stainless ones on the XR look like new.. the one year old wire ones on the Tenere are looking grim!..Steve

Cheers Steve, have you got some sort of costing worked out?..I know the exact bridge you are talking about I use it as a traffic free run to work and a cut through to my folks place..will be nice when I can eventually try the new fork springs out on it!..

I'll hopefully get started next week...will photo and show the cost as I go... but can we keep the costs to ourselves....just you me and all forum friends...!!!. ( I never noticed your motorcycle wheels were gold dear....? Oh really, fancy you not noticing. ) Steve
