Front disc bolts..

Hi all, I have had an on going problem with rusting on the front disc bolts, and it's becoming a pain in the bum taking them off and wire brushing them all the time, does any body have any ideas on good replacements for the little blighters that don't corrode so easily?..cheers jo..

Have you tried coating them with ACF 50 or something Jo? I polished all bare metal parts (spokes etc) with autosol metal polish when the bike was new, but couldn't find ACF here but coated all with this... http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01...3a372be22e.jpg

Everything is still as new now over a year later. Living near a coast here bare metal can go rusty quick to if left alone.
I have also coated the rims & hubs with this stuff, they are still looking good too.

Hi desert racer, use acf50 on everything but just these blooming bolts just can't hack the weather,I'm not right on the coast but in the salty air blowing range!..will have a look for that stuff..cheers..

Quite simply, these Disc Bolts are made out of material that are of the crappest quality, there's no other way to describe it.....it really is literally monkey metal.

I have taken all of mine off, spun them up in a pistol drill, wet & dry papered them till they were gleaming, coated them with ACF50,let them sit with a liberal ACF coating for a weekend then put them back on the wheels after gently mopping off the excess to stop any excess ACF "Fling" onto the surface of the Discs and within the week....speckling again. Just crap quality steel....monkey metal. So then I did it all again but painted them in silver Hammerite....speckling within the month and I don't ride in the wet. I think the metal is corroding anyway, because it is not pure enough. A kind of corroding from inside out,it does happen alot. Happened on my Dad's Ford Focus whichwas 3 years old,it needed new front lower wishbones because of this, they were made in Spain too, funnily enough. It's basically costcutting.

Just had a root aboot, Wemoto do replacement Stainless M6 Disc Mounting Bolts @ 4.56 each. You'll need 12 of them,I believe,so that's 54.72 in all....plus P&P which is 3.90 in the UK,so that's a grand total of 58.62 to never worry about crappy bolts.....but steep innit :(

I might just keep whipping mine out & splodging on Hammerite :(

Not so Cheers - Stim

Just go to your local fastener shop. Last time I bought some I think they came in at about 50p each!

micron_Ed 13-06-16 23:49

the front bolts have a shank/non thread part on them which is larger diameter than the thread, my local suppliers haven't been able to help with these.
