Sorry in advance if I'm teaching granny to suck eggs but have you had one before?? The reason I ask having gone too a lot of trouble to buy one only to find they are unique because of being made in Italy and there's no cross over in parts with other Yamahas.

When I realised what I had gotten into escaped by the skin of my financial teeth,it's somewhere in Southern Ireland now phewww.

yes i had one ,took it from glasgow to morroco..however it was a newish bike then so you may have a point about the spares..i shall have to go back to the blackboard on this one,,cheers

Bulletproof, they just don't have the same up-rated suspension - but very very capable.

yep maybe consider the RE...from a point of ignorance do these suffer from the parts availabilty problem as the belgardia model ?

Had mine for 15 years (feel awld now).

Spares can be tricky but it does share most parts with other Yamahas as long as you have the part number you should be able to get it.

Consumables like pads sprockets oil filters are OK its when you need model specific stuff, to redo the forks cost a whapping �240 for a handful of those coated spacer/washer/bearing things.

after some research it seems the RE version although built in italy has the same engine as the xt...the ttr kickstart model has a thinner motor and flywheel...is it the service and engine parts what you found difficult to source?

I had a RE for a while, great machine, suspension was a bit cheaper than the Belgardia, but works well.

Brake pads are the same as the Tenere, as is the oil & filter. C&S sets are different.

The tank is ridiculously small, but you can get an Acerbis oversized tank easily enough (if pricey) and the seat is good for 100 miles.

They aren't fast..... with decent knobblies on it'll wobble a bit at 75 (indicated).

The weak point are the speedo, it will fail.... easily replaced with a nice digital TrailTech unit, and mine had an appetite for batteries if I didn't keep it on an optimate. An iridium plug will help with starting from cold.

I'd have another in a heartbeat. A lovely simple air cooled bulletproof off-roader.

Can't remember if it was the front or rear disc that I tried to source,when it comes to stuff like this I'm well enough connected to avoid such things as retail!! But all the alarm bells started ringing when I realised a lot of the parts didn't cross reference like so many yamahas do,so I didn't even have the choice of buying secondhand or aftermarket hence why I bailed out.

Oh and mine was a SM with 17" rims

The only thing that�s ever broke was the auto decomp cable and I managed to order that from the local bike shop.

Engine is more or less the same as pre e-start XT.

They (bike shop) never used to have the TTR on their parts system when I first got it but they do now.

Be worth checking with your local Yam dealer if they do spares certainly worth checking prices as some bits can be phenomenally priced.

Consumables are readily available and on a par price wise.
