Hello Tom from UK!

Hello

My name is Tom and am in the process of organising a trans-africa trip from UK to Capetown leaving next september. Joined this site because i have decided to use an XT660R for this trip.

Many reasons

-They are an XT built to withstand an African trip and proven many times

-Simple machine I can service on the road

-Lighter and cheaper to buy, ( i test rode an xt660z tenere ) was shocked how heavy the thing was! Not saying it not a capable machine but i like lighter. Weight has always been my number one enemy with bikes.

Anyways will be hoping to use the knowledge and advice of members here to bounce off views and opinions on a few of the XTRs i will be viewing. Want to buy one this side of christmas.

I have been to see a couple of XTRs already but they were winter commuter bikes and not in great shape cosmetically, surface rust etc. But i think i found a perfect XTR for sale on another site. Will put up another post to get views. The more the better!!!

Thanks and Regards

Tom

I see Steve is so happy you've joined us that he's welcomed you twice! ;)

Sounds like a good trip you've got planned there. Good luck finding the right XTR. Keep us posted with your progress.

Hey Tom welcome mate. All the best for you bike search & big trip. Just make sure any food you have stashed on your bike is well secured as the monkeys up Table Mountain will have your sarnies before you can say 'Where's the nearest cafe'.
