Clutch Issue

Have a 2011 odel XTR, it doesnt get alot of use due to work, but the other day while out riding off road the clutch began to slip in 2nd and 3rd. I had given it a oil and filter change approx 800kms ago.

I checked the clutch lever free play and there is approx 5mm, but there is no adjustment left in the lever or the adjustment at the gearbox end.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the cause?

Sounds like it could be linked to the oil change... What oil did you actually use?

Which oil should be used? What do you recommend?

I used Castrol Activ 4T, 15w-40, Bottle States for Continuous protection for motorcycles, Exceeds the requirements of API SG and JASO MA2,

Bottle claims it protects engine clutch and gears.

Personally i diont think its gear related.

I think it has to do with the actual clutch or oil. The only thing that i have a problem with the the lack of adjustment left in the cable. I have taken out all adjustment i can to get 5mm freeplay in the lever, manual states 10-15mm.

It isn't going to be the oil then. Anything that carries a JASO MA is tested on, and suitable for, wet clutch engines (JASO MB is for dry clutch or separate clutch motors). MA2 is the latest classification for catalyst equipped bikes.

Assuming the cable isn't frayed and getting stuck somewhere in the outer, then it has to be a physical/mechanical issue with the clutch.
