Loose air filter
When I installed my DNA air filter on my new XT I was surprised to find a K&N filter already installed! It was in there pretty tight and took some pulling to get it out, however when I installed the DNA filter the gap between the snorkel chamber and the filter was huge, a good few millimetres enough to see through to the holes I drilled in the snorkel chamber. It's nowhere near as snug as the K&N was and to be honest I'm a little concerned. Is this normal for the DNA filters? I plugged the gap with a healthy amount of grease but don't know if the air pressure might pull it loose. Does anyone else have this experience with these filters or any advice?

Can anyone at all give me some advice on this?

Read
this thread. I think it covers all you need to know.

Yes thank you that covers what I needed to know. The side cover of the airbox has tabs that push the filter against the snorkel chamber making a seal where I see a gap. Good to know that the stage 2 filter also has these tabs which is the first thing that came to my mind when reading this.

One more question, is the stage 1 DNA filter supposed to have an EVA seal like this?

I've recently fitted a stage 1 DNA and I don't believe mine did. I had a small pot of grease in the box and just covered the edges with that before sliding it into place.

Thanks Steven the K&N one I removed didn't have one either but that was a very tight fit. Then again it was smaller than the DNA one so wouldn't be pushed in by the tabs on the side panel.
Just ordered my stage 2 filter and a stainless cover from eBay looking forward to fitting those when they arrive next week. :) |
