I'm concerned about an after market exhaust setting fire to them. Read something about melting top boxes

I use a kreiga 25 for my commute and can feel it just touching the seat. No doubt I can adjust it but not by much I don't think Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I went for the cheapest option and I was well surprised how well it worked out. I bought the Oxford 1st Time soft panniers, cost me about 50-55 and it was well worth it! Done about 4500 miles around Europe in July and didn't have nay issues with them.
I was also worried about them catching fire or melting so went to B&Q to find some sort of heat proof tape or mat. I ended up buying a piece of plumbers soldering mat, something like this: http://www.screwfix.com/p/rothenberg...ring-mat/54910 I cut it in half and stitched each half to the inside of the panniers. Actually I just stitched to the straps and they were just hanging down but the mufflers kept them in place. I haven't got a good picture but you can see them sticking out here and there (the square bits) http://s19.postimg.org/d9k6l1atr/DSC_0028.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/5jdefw8i7/DSC_0030.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/4bzgnoidr/DSC_0031.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/eakfa5rtb/DSC_0032.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/ffehfjea7/DSC_0033.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/9h0o5avbj/DSC_0115.jpg As soon as I put them on started worrying about them starching the mufflers and they did. The picture below was just after a few days http://s19.postimg.org/4jn3k6tcf/DSC_0181.jpg After about 3000 miles http://s19.postimg.org/te6le9e6n/DSC_0241.jpg I managed to restore them pretty well with a few scoth brite pads. I used Autosol on the pipes which has done an excellent job! http://s19.postimg.org/mcd95szyn/DSC_0296.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/exnxdfe33/DSC_0297.jpg Next time I'll put the panniers on I think I'm going to wrap the mufflers in some sort of heat resistant tape like this OR buy a couple of R&G protectors. They're about a cm or taller and should keep the panniers away from the exhaust. Hope this helps S. |

Nice one pal. I looked at those panniers but have ordered a givi rack and have a cheap top box I'll use with these ROK Motorcycle Adjustable Strap - 12"-42" (Twin Pack)ROK-12-42-TP by Rok http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003DXNT9..._D6K-vbSRFCP52 Lomo 40L Motorbike Drybag https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00O254L..._A7K-vbW35PW9M Hopefully should do the trick. Might have to shove something under the top box when I go for my MTC cans Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...psxpmxz9w9.jpg Yes, protect from hot exhaust! , I was getting mighty annoyed with the car behind me flashing his lights and sounding his horn...until I realised why!. A little plume of smoke. After I thanked him, (this was in Ireland ), he insisted I followed him back to his farmhouse for tea and cake. We then made a heats held from a pair of oven gloves! Steve
