exploring new ''to me'' xtr
 

Well bit of a dull day at work so decided to have a grub about and look round my 04 xtr, it's got carbon can company cans on and when I lifted to seat I found no snorkel !! Hurmmmm me thinks I'd better look a little deeper when I get a minute,
Question is
if these are the only modifications I find will I be running lean/weak ?

And on the philosophy of buy once cry once do I bite the bullet and have it fitted with a dynojet or the like and have it mapped on a rolling road or go the option of the kev unit and play till I think it feels right myself ?

Noticed a little round green sticker on cylinder head on kerbside side does this denote anything ?

Don't worry about it running lean, the snorkel and exhaust make very little change to the air/fuel ratio.
I'd worry if there is a dna stage 2 filter, then you'd need a fuel commander.
Kev's fuel mod is a very good affordable alternative to the power commander.

I don't think you can adjust these motors by feel very well.
You won't feel the difference between a bit lean and very lean.
But again, with your setup i wouldn't worry about that.

Are you planning to mod the bike in the future?
In that case i would save for a power commander.
If not, Kev's fuel mod will be perfectly fine for a bike with simple airbox mods and it will provide you with a smoother ride with a slightly increased throttle response.

To be honest I'm not sure how far ill end up taking the bike mods wise as once you get started it's easy to end up like a mouse on a wheel and unable to stop yourself from that next little mod that you tell yourself you ''need'' so think so long as I don't find any trick filters when I explore deeper I'll save up my pocket money and go the expensive way.

worth checking if your model had O2 sensor fitted to the exhaust and if the current one has it.

The sensor is part of the fueling feedback loop which to monitor and adjust the mixture. Without it, I think the engine will run richer

... and they all have the little green dot, I think it's like a reminder for a qualified Yamaha mechanic to know that the "whatever" is on that side, be it the cam chain or the piston rings gaps, not sure which but that is what is there for.
