Second Hand xt660x

Hi, i'm new to the supermoto machines; i am very fond of the feedback and comments i have seen on the XT660X so far and i decided to go searching for some second hand ones.

A dealer who is about 6 hours drive away from me has a 2004 one for 3,000 GBP that has 8k miles and 6 previous owners, it looks very clean and in mint condition, here are some pics of the bike.

I did a HPI check and the V5C and VIN seem to be missing, i'll follow up with him on that.

Would anybody here have any good tips they can suggest to help make sure i'm not walking into trouble here. Much appreciated.

Hi buddy
I'm new to supermoto bikes and new on here too but I picked up mine yesterday in good clean and tidy condition, 2004 model with 10400 on it and only paid 1950,
I'd say kick a little harder on the price as although as I say I'm a noob too is does seem pricey at 3k.
Regards
J

If you can't find a clean secondhand xtx closer to you in London there is something wrong. It's hard to believe that a dealer is offering a bike without a VIN/V5 but in any case, avoid any bike where the documents aren't straight. The xtx is a great bike, reliable, great handling and fun but you need to buy the best bike you can within your budget. Maybe ask on here if anyone has one for sale?

Thanks guys, i will get a hold of the V5 and VIN number first thing monday so as to complete the HPI check, and if he can't provide it then there is definitely something fishy going on.

I am more then happy to see if anybody is selling an XT660X in London here on the forum, where would be the best place to post for that ?

3K is a bit salty for an eleven year old XTX IMHO - you should be able to do better than that? There are 2009/2010 bikes with about 8-12K miles on them for that sort of outlay.

Take this one (which is in your area) for example...

Hi mine a 2005 with 23000 miles 3 owners and it was 1300 so i think it a bit over priced.

You should pick up a good xt with your budget just don't rush in take your time. Once you have bought there is some fantastic advice on this site to improve the running and performance.

Good Luck Steve

Thanks everyone, i decided not to go for that bike - i noticed that dealers charge way more than private sellers.

I'll continue searching :)

Have you had a look at the one in Surrey I mentioned in my earlier post?

Yes i did, he refused to give me the Registration number when i asked him for it, i wanted to carry out a HPI and MOT history check before seeing the bike... he said he was being cautious... dunno.

I think that's fair enough; I'd probably be the same if it were my bike. Go and see it, prove you're genuine, then do the checks. You can probably do it all there and then if you've got 3G/4G/WiFi.

Thanks Pleiades, wasn't sure how to approach that; i'm new to purchasing bikes... might give it another go.

I would. Looks like a decent bike. The fact that the owner is "cautious" could be seen as a good thing - he obviously treasures his bike and thus probably looked after it quite well.

I lost my heart at 6 owners!!! Plenty more fish in the sea :smilies0337:

I would not advise to buy from someone, who wont reveal VIN and reg plate to check history. You are the one, who should be cautious here.

I'm not so sure I agree with that.

I for one would not give my registration number or VIN to any Tom, Dick or Harry who just rang me up asking for it. If you did then what's to stop some tea leaf who's stolen a bike that matches yours using your reg and VIN? Any potential buyer would need to show some serious commitment first - i.e. turn up and actually look at the bike and show some interest - prove they're genuine and not a time-waster, or worse still a potential criminal. As it stands (at this stage) the prospective buyer (balzano_1) has nothing to lose, but the vendor has absolutely everything to lose!

Fair enough if he goes to see the bike and he doesn't want to reveal information/show documents, then walk away.

I think the seller's behaviour is perfectly normal and acceptable in this case. He is right to be cautious.

I just picked up a 2010 last weekend with 7000 miles for 3 private.

Feel like I overpaid, as you have to leave for DNA Stage 1 + 2 filters plus the o2 sensor & Kev mod will add an extra 250 onto the price.

Hello and welcome from overcast Newtownards

There is a second hand kev mod for sale in Belfast on gumtree. He's looking close to new price but could be worth a bid.
