Any one fancy a Green laning day out. Now 22nd August
Hi guys im just trying to gauge interest really but i plan too meet up and do a days riding on sat 22nd of August, starting at Milnrow BP fuel station, (just off J21 M62) and using the lanes l know to get all the way up into the dales and beyond.
Im planning on taking in as many green lanes as possible including taking in the beautiful salter fell lane (longest in Lancashire) ive got a rough route planned out which ill ride beforehand so i know its all ok. Any suggestions welcome. Anyone is welcome to join me. I would advise that you have a little offroad experience but none of the lanes will be too difficult for a complete novice. Lots of banter and pictures throughout the day. Ill take my slr for some action shots and get then uploaded to the forum. If anyones interested just coment below. I usually make a full day of riding so ill suggest 8AM start and be back in Rochdale area tea time. The date isnt set in stone ive got a lot on this month but so will have to be on or after the 1st of August. Pics from previous days out. http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps68862bfc.jpg http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps21b31eb3.jpg Salter fell http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...pst81jdmov.jpg http://i607.photobucket.com/albums/t...psfwdxchx4.jpg Thanks for looking JON |

That will give me more time to try the route and throw on some knobblies. As for the screen on the red Z ive asked the the owner and hes doesnt know as it csme on the bike. but it looks like a metal mule too me. http://metalmule.com/yamaha-xt660z-t...ight-tint.html Jon |
22nd is perfect for me. It's the missus' hen do so I'd only be hanging around the house
|
Thanks for the link but it's not the same as the one on the red bike, the red bike seems much wider, which is what I'm after.

Yep same one, 8am there is a subway at the bp petrol station or if thats too early too eat a MC donalds at rising bridge, or jjs cafe at winfields with the motorcycle display/mesuem.
Or We can find somewhere else. Im easy. I havnt had chace to ride the route due to work commitments so please bare with me if i need to check the gps ocasionally lol :-) and ive been told by a friend that one of the lanes (stalling busk) has got a little rough but we can assess it on arrival :-) See you fellas there. Jon |
sounds great, lokoing forward to it...:)
|
Hi chaps,
I'm still up for this weekend too! Jon, I've got a set of Michelin Siracs on my XTR at the moment. Are these going to be able to handle the routes you have planned or would you suggest something more aggressive? |
Sorry bud just seen your message siracs should be ok for the most part. We can avoid any muddy lanes :-)

Heck Aaron and Keith, looks more gnarly than Wales. Well done for surviving this one. Wish it was a bit closer for us Southerners.

day out 22 august
Thanks for a great day out jonz, Its monday now and ive just about recovered:104: have to do it again in a month or so but miss out the climb up salter fell!!
The bikes nice and shiny again and now shod with a K60 scout on the rear . Read my thread on trying to fit it I will post it soon. |
Jacques, you're not wrong mate! it was hard going but that's what made it such good fun.
I dunno if I'll be having another go in the next month. That's dangerously close to my wedding and I've been warned not to be limping up the aisle. Soon as I get back I'll be fitting a pair of Mitas Army Specials. Then it'll be back to Salter Fell and this time I'll try not to end up under the bike. Cheers for a top day out Jon! Even if I'd have found these lanes on my own I'd of had no chance of getting through them without all the advice. |
No worries guys im glad you enjoyed it, Keith youll be fine next time we do salter fell. Youve had a practice run now and know what too expect ;-)
If i dnt speak too you before Arn have a great wedding bud. :-) and when your trail tires are fitted drop me a message and well get out :-) Jaques, For you southern guys I could try to put something together in wales if thats more achievable distance? |
Thanks for the offer but will have to wait till my suspension is a bit more suited. A bit like a pogo stick when stock. I do feel for Aaron with those road based tires going through those rocks. Must have caused some exciting moments.
