Got followed by the police yesterday!

Hi guys

I spent yesterday being followed by the police but on this ocassion the attention was very welcome, as it was part of the Thames Valley Police Bike Safe course!

It's a nationally run training event and even though I've been riding bikes for well over 30 years, I found it incredibly useful. The bike coppers were well up for making progress (I don't want to drop anyone in it...) and gave some really useful tips about group riding etc. It's so funny when a car driver carves you up and then they see the police bike :kneel:

Anyway, I highly recommend it and after their suggestion I am now scheduled to sit my first advanced riders award with the IAM. Current insurance with Bike Safe certificate is 69 TPFT (I am 50).

Check it out; http://www.bikesafe.co.uk/

Bikesafe is a very useful course. I did it, then followed it up with IAM.

It's a good feeling when you get that pass and a handshake from the examiner.

I've had lots of various assessments since, each one a bit tougher than the last.... I rode my first bike 30 years ago, and I'm still learning.

It really is a great opportunity to pick up a few tips and for me, when I was giving the initial opening lecture, to a two day course-group, I would open with the fact we ALL are still learning and that included me and my colleagues. There had been many a time that the public offered up little gems that I and the lads have used or worked with.

You can ask all sorts of questions and have them answered there and then or researched professionally for you with a definitive answer that most certainly hasn't come 'from a mate down the pub'

It's a real barrier breaking experience and many, like Gas-Up, go on to to further training which can only be a good thing.

Here's a pic from the 3 day Sheffield event. You'd be surprised what we turn up on..!

Wow, not my cup of tea but certainly makes an impact! Yep, already enrolled for further training with TVAM www.tvam.org.uk :thumbsup[1]:
