Helmet cameras

Who here owns/uses a helmet camera i.e. Drift, GoPro, Contour? If not, why?

I'm after one but can't decide between the masses of brands out at the moment, so some user feedback would be good. For me its a balance of image quality and size/weight, needs to be quality enough to actually see whats going on but not feel like having a brick strapped to the side of my head. Option for an external mic also.

Cheers :icon_thumright:

Cheers Pepsi, was looking at the Contour, between that and the Drift really. Just seen a mod to fit an external mod to the contour too should I get one later, nothing too difficult. Think the Drift has more features but its still a lot more heavy bulky.

Do you notice it much when riding?

GoPro is a definite no, got one I used for mountain biking and occaisionally in the car but its far too big to wear doing 70+mph

edit: Didn't realise the +2 model had a mic jack, the one I was looking at didn't, bonus!

When I was looking for a helmetcam I did quite a bit of reading around and weighed up stuff like value for money, video quality, form factor etc. In the end I went with the Drift Ghost S, that I got from RoadcraftNottingham. Have a look at some of my youtube vids (DukeNinja). I alternated from top mount to side mount to held just by the pilion strap.

I don't use a helmet-cam, mainly because I think they look ridiculous !

However, I do have a hardwired bike cam --> http://shop.roadhawk.co.uk/roadhawk-ride-r-camera

Comes on when the bike starts, off when the bike goes off and records about 8 hours in 15min segments. It's there for evidence gathering, for the time something happens where a non bias view is required.

The 1080p quality is very very good, even at speed the stills you can get give good definition.

It is very discreet and barley noticeable to the passing eye.

I've been riding now with a drift ghost-S and post regularly on YouTube [emoji51]

Thanks guys, some good info. Think I've finally come to the conclusion that I prefer the Drift cameras, found this gem of a comparison that set that decision in stone. So tempted by the Contour but the Drift edged ahead, sorry Pepsi

Just seems to be packed with features like the screen, remote, wifi, 3.5mm jack blah blah blah... Sure you pay extra but its the whole package, suits me just fine. May even get the picatinny rail mount, slap it on my rifle and take it on a range day, watch this space :070:

Dukeninja & Donkey, subbed!

Cheers Pepsi, will do! Hopefully the weather is decent this weekend, will treat the bike to it's first wash with me, and pics of course!
