My Tenere Build
Hi all!
My names Adam and I'm from Bedfordshire in the UK. I bought a Tenere last Wednesday. It's a 2011 and it'd done 3800 miles, it was pretty clean with just a few blemishes here and there where it'd been taken off road. The only extras it came with were Renthal bars, a Givi screen and a rack plate. I've since fitted:

Some of which are listed below:
If anybody has any parts for sale that you think I might be interested in or any mods you think I should do then let me know :) Cheers! Adam |
Thats a really nice job you have done and a good few spent that I can see lol... hope your going to make use of it all :)

Hey Adam, that's a well lavished & great looking bike. I see you must of nabbed the last 'Tenere' black rad guard. I was waiting for the medium rack to come into stock at AltecH, but when it did the rad guard was sold out !! I've gone for the Dakar one instead now.
Enjoy mate. |
Very nice Adam. You don't hang around. All in one go. Nice job. That will take you to the other side of the world

Hi Adam, great bike , nice mods. How do you find the Givi screen. ? Steve

:023: Good stuff Adam - keep it coming.
Just out of interest, I found that Barkbusters fouled the Givi screen as is it quite a bit wider than all the other screens on the market. Had to ditch it in favour of a Metal Mule one. |
Thanks guys!
I'm not keen on the screen, it seems to create some weird buffeting effect but that could be the fork holes. I'm going to investigate this some more before writing it off completely but I think I'll need to replace it. Yes the bark busters do foul the screen, but only on full lock. If I keep the screen then I'll trim the sides down. I'm going to head over to a local off road racing company to see if they have any rally raid style screens that fit. Going to fit my new tyres tomorrow which are much more knobbly then the current ones :) Heres a picture of the bike with the bark buster casings fitted, just before I went to the Royston & District Motorcycle Club Show tonight: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1465/...f65cf132_z.jpg Heres a photo of the show, there must have been over 1000 bikes there: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1712/...4048f6b0_z.jpg And heres a picture of me riding in! :D https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5684/...025be936_z.jpg |
Very nice! Your list of (wannahave) mods is very similar to mine. Where do you plan on getting the custom yokes for the KTM fork?

I'm going to CAD them up and get my friend to machine them for me on his CNC machine. |
Well, it's been a few months and about a thousand miles. Not so many but to be fair I have been busy (Galavanting around Japan for a month, Working, Building my R1 etc.).
I did fit those new tyres: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5700/...1b1e3c17_z.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1707/...dfa9221e_z.jpg Doing some work at the moment to wire in a set of heated grips, provision for a set of ADV lights and a couple of 12v sockets. The previous owner had fitted a 12v socket but he'd done it directly to the battery which I hate so I've taken a spur off the ignition live that goes to the tail light under the seat and I'm using that to trigger a relay to power the grips, 12v sockets etc. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5831/...1fd17ac9_z.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5761/...cf413310_z.jpg Hopefully I'll be doing some sort of longish trip in the new year. Thinking Russia or something. We'll see! |
Right, so heated grips and the provision for other accessories has been installed on a switched live relay!
I'll be installing my front 12v socket just as soon as I get a hole cutter drill bit the right size :) I also got bored and decided to paint my side panels. Oh and I sold that Givi screen to a lovely chap on here and my very kind friend Nick gave me his old (and slightly cut down) puig so my bark busters no longer hit the screen! I've also pointed my levers down quite a bit to assist with standup riding. Pics!: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1515/...5e0f53ec_z.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1650/...c4451789_z.jpg I'm considering spraying the bike white/red just because I think tenere's done in those colours look the dogs doodads. Going to get my pannier rack etc. powder coated soon as it's showing a little rust and although I've painted over the rust with Hammerite I think it could do with a proper job. It's that or tractor paint! Planning to get some ADV lights for the front soon and perhaps fit a Touratech seat or something as the one thats on the bike causes me an issue when going between standing and sitting with my gentlemen rocks :P Might try and attempt to make my own, I'm not bad at cutting foam! Until next time. |
Looking good! , and yes, the red/white scheme looks particularly good on the Tenere. Steve

Nice mate. Funny how we always end up wanting another colour. It was the blue ones that first got my attention, then I watched a black one come & go from my local bike shop before I was in a position to by one. Gutted. I even considered a DR 650 to scratch the itch as they are half the price. Nearly bought a brown one from Western Australia but transport costs negated any saving there. So after 18 odd months of the white Tenere keep winking at me every time I went past the bike shop I eventually caved in. To start with white was my least favorite, but now found it a very easy colour to live with & look after. After riding it, it could be pink with purple spots & I'd be just as happy !!
