oil change interval...?

Just wondered if it's worth changing the oil again at 3k miles...oil changed by dealer at 600 miles. On my XR650R I changed oil and filter every 2k....the recommended 6k interval seems a lot of miles on a big single like the Tenere. Any thoughts .? Steve

I do oil & filter around 2000k..
I have a Rekluse clutch so like to
make sure theres no plate fiber
building up in the oil...

For me: Oil every 3000 miles, oil and filter every 6000 miles.

With my older yamaha tenere's the manual said every 6000km so i changed it that often (with a new filter each time). With the new pony it is probably the marketing department that has asked to have it increased to 10000km.

I've not been riding it that much and also stick to the old thumb rule of replacing the oil once a year - preferably just before putting it away for the winter.

I'll just stick to the manual with up to 10000km between oilchange.

But if you go for a rtw ride or are rallying it is aways nice to start with fresh oil and have the old checked for metal ...

Which oil do you use?

I tend to use Motul 5100 10w40 semi-synthetic. Good balance between price and quality. After all, as has already been mentioned, it the same stuff as used at the dealer but that's branded as Yamalube and costs more.

Thanks Pleiades. ...I agree, a sensibly priced oil and more frequent changes is the way to go. Steve

Glad I saw this. My bike just passed 5000 miles and I haven't even given it a thought. Better do this before wales then
