Road tyres?

I've been running the fantastic Metzeler Tourance for a while on my XT660R. I rarely go off road as I use the bike as an all weather commuter. I was thinking about fitting the Metzeler Lasertec road tyres which are available in a 21" fitment . Any thoughts?

:wow: High praise indeed! Personally, I hated the damn things. ;)

Never heard of anyone trying Lasertec on an 21" wheeled XT? Always a first time for everything. Go for it, you never know what works/what you like with tyres until you've tried them. It's all well and good reading the opinions of others, but they'll never give you more than a rough guide; an idea of where to start. Even then some people's opinions are like chalk and cheese - as you can see already, I hate Tourance, yet you love 'em!

There is (fortunately) a much better choice of road bias tyres for 21"/17" wheeled adventure stylee bikes than there was five or ten years ago, and most on the market are pretty decent. Conti TrailAttack, Bridgestone Battlewing, Dunlop TrailSmart to name just a few...

I was very happy with trail attack 2 for about 20,000 miles.
12,000 out of the first pair
Great in the wet, not so great on any kind of 'trail' really.

I think Trail Attack 2 will be the answer for me

I run TrailAttack 2's on my 800 Tiger, they were very very good indeed (much better than the god awful Pirelli Scorpion Trail). Not tried them on a lighter bike, but I suspect they will perform well.

Tourance.. fantastic ??? Not two words I'd use together !
Although I have the Tourance NEXT on my Crosstourer and they worked very well for 1000 miles before squaring off (granted I was touring 2-up with luggage) and now I'm not so sure about them.

The NEXT is a road tyre, no trail ability whatsoever.

Thanks chaps for the advice. I bought a set of Conti Trail Attacks from Openo . I now realise how awful the Metzelers were. The bike feels transformed.

I never go off ofroad.
And fiitted Dunlop Streetsmart 100% road tire.

My xt 6660z is a complete different motor, and i love it!
