Flashing engine management light 660Z

Out riding today and my 660Z just stopped running, when trying to start it turns over fine but fails to run. Whilst turning over the engine management light flashes fast all the time. The trip home was on the back of a truck! Any ideas what may be causing this?

:welcome: to XT660.com - not an ideal reason to post your first thread! ;)

If the light flashes when the engine is turn over on the starter, it usually (but not always) means the main relay is defective.

It can also do this when there is a fault with the crank position sensor, ignition coil or lean angle cut-off switch. If these were at fault though you would expect to see the engine trouble light flashing a code when the ignition is turned on (and not turning over or running). Is there such a fault code flashing?

If there is no fault code flashing with the ignition on, suspect/check the main relay operation and its connections first.

Looks like there was a short on the wiring loom under the tank, this in turn blew a fuse and the fuel pump relay. Just waiting for a new relay and will be able to confirm the diagnosis. Should be back on the road soon.

It's usually in the area circled yellow. You can see where I have fitted foam pads to insulate vibration and prevent damage...

The culprit is usually the spur off the main loom that runs to the fuel injector.

Yes turned out be the exact problem you described, after the garage found and repaired the short it was just a case of a new relay and fuse. Very quick repair just time consuming finding the short in the first place.
