thoughts on Kev mod, 02controller and stage DNA

Had my first 'proper' ride on the Tenere today since fitting the mods, about a 50 mile round trip. What a difference. ....very much smoother low down and much more instant and punchy!, I'm really pleased with the results. Going into tight corners, roundabouts etc, you can sweep round in 2nd gear with no stuttering and no need to drop a gear...it's just such a nicer bike to ride. With the total cost of the mods being 100, it's a great result. One question. .how much should I experiment with the settings on the Kev mod? , how sensitive is the adjuster. .? And is there any point in checking the colour of the spark plug...or am I showing my age!! Steve

I set mine at 5 o'clock and have never touched it since.....

If I were you, I would now do the exhaust mod....By far the best bang for buck mod going, if you can do the job yourself.

As long as you've followed Kev's instructions you'll be fine. What I found is that you need to dial in a little more (say go from 5 o'clock to 6) when the ambient temperature is lower than 10C, and a bit less if it goes above 25C (hardly likely in the UK!)

You could check your plug, it will give you a very rough idea of running condition, but with the <5% ethanol mixed in UK fuels these days it isn't quite as easy to read the colouration as it once was.

Thanks guys...good advice. Am going to do the exhaust as soon as time allows! Steve

Hi Steve, guess you had a good ride today then!..couldn't have described the kev mod better myself, that's what I was trying to get across to you up at whiteways..

Thanks for your feedback, the settings of the fuel mod in the instructions are from Dyno testing + from feedback from riders all over the world over the past 9 years.

The current fuel mod (version 4) has a narrower adjustment range compared to the very first version & version 2, as I had riders over fuelling their bikes & causing all sorts of problems with V1 & V2 not being able to feel what is going on. If you stick closely to the settings guide lines you will never have any running problems.

V1= Adjusted coolant temp sender + air temp sender, two adjusters.
V2= Went to adjusting Air only.
V3 = Resistance change due to riders over fuelling their bikes.
V4 = Current mod. Increase in resistance to accommodate stage 2 & 3 filters.

I would also do my throttle mod this will help you further in small throttle controls.

Hi Kev, thanks for info....as the Kev mod I have is one with a yellow ring and pointer, which version is that.? Would it be worth upgrading to the latest one?. And how do I get hold of your throttle mod..? Steve

The yellow knob should be a version 3, if you are running a stage 3 filter or a stage 3 air box a V4 would be better suited, V3 had no problems up to a stage 2 filter & pipes.

My Throttle mod costs nothing to do & has remarkable results in throttle control, I am using it on my MT09 at the moment & have done it to my KTM's in the past. http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?p=154983#post154983
