Reseting CO to it's defaults?

Hi All

I'm a new owner of a 2013 XTX. The bike is brilliant and great fun but as many others it suffers from surging a lot. I've been reading through posts and mods on this forum in the past few weeks and the tips were very helpful, thank you.

I bought the bike from a Yamaha dealer with only 2400 miles on it, had 2 previous owners and had Leo Vince exhausts fitted. According to the dealer this was done at the 600 mile service. The bike was always service at the same dealer.

Last weekend I tried the CO mod and I've seen that it was set to 19. I'm wondering if the previous owners played with these settings as it seems a little high (according to other posts).

Is there a way to reset it to it's factory settings?

By the way, I upped the setting from 19 to 22 and it feels like that it made a small difference. Now it looks like that the surging has "moved" from 10-30 miles range to 20-35. I'd like to up it a bit more but want to find out first if it has been modified.

Also, how high can one go?

Thanks

There were never an "default" settings as such. All XTs came with slightly different settings but generally, as a rule of thumb, they tended to come in the range -5 to +20. (Earlier pre 2007 models tended to be slightly higher and most were set between +10 and +20.) Your setting of +19 could quite reasonably be the setting it was originally given?

If you go too high then you can make things worse regarding surging, generally members haven't ventured much past a +30 change in CO. Most folk have found you just need to play around, increasing/decreasing in increments of no more than 5, making notes as you go, and see where the motor behaves best.

Remember, the CO setting only affects idle and very small throttle openings. It doesn't have any affect at all above about 2% throttle. You will need some other fuelling device to achieve this, such as a Kev Mod or Power Commander.

Interesting fact about the 2%, thank you.

I will do the obvious and free mods first and see how much they improve surging and slow speed control. Powercommander is out of the budged but Kevs mod looks like the ultimate solution.

Thanks

Have a read of this thread. It covers all the "free" stuff you can try first...
