Cheers for that, after another days riding I'm getting use to it. Figured I'm actually tall enough to straddle the bike and rock it off the stand which is MUCH nicer than moving it off the stand holding the bars...felt like I was going to drop it every time.

Bonus pic, cheers guys.

I'm just curious as well, what is an acceptable level of vibration for these bikes? I'm finding it to be quite a lot at the moment, the mirrors vibrate quite extensively to the point that the rear view becomes almost a blur. It vibrates right through first gear, most of second and then stops as soon as i sit in third and cruise at 32mph, but will start again as soon as i climb up. At 70 it's quite heavy, and then by 80 the vibration is almost gone.

They do vibrate a bit - normal (within reason for a big single). Certainly going to be more vibey than your 125; it's all relative to what bike you've come from/are used to.

Some things to think about/check:

I see you have handguards fitted. Are there any bar end weights fitted?

You have a bash plate and engine bars fitted. These are fixed at the engine mounts and quite often people don't get the torque set right, or use sub-standard bolts (that come with the kit) which are a bit stretchy, or they work loose. Check the torque; too loose or too tight and you will get excessive vibes transmitted through the frame.

Try keeping the revs up in the 'comfort zone'. One of the things you'll get used to is where the XT motor doesn't vibrate and work around this by careful choice of gear/engine/road speed.

Thanks for the info. I don't suppose you know the correct torque settings do you, or is it just trial and error?
And I believe the hand guards are fitted with end weights yeah.

All the engine mount bolts on 2004-2006 XTX are 73Nm apart from the upper bracket to engine mount which is 55Nm.

I'll be sure to check that out, cheers!

Just thought i'd drop by and say I adjusted my engine mount bolts and it's dampened the vibrations by about 25-30%, thanks a lot! Unfortunately one of them seems to have worn and will not tighten completely.

You may have a stripped thead if so replace the bolt. Also check that you are not crushing something,:eusa_doh: you can get TONS of pressure on any bolt over about 10 mm. If you have not got a torque wrench go easy and just tighten until the pressure hardens up on the spanner it always better to slightly under tighten most bolts.

I am using a torque wrench yeah, it's a click type so it's really obvious when they are at the correct setting. The bolt just keeps turning so I think it must be stripped. :(
