sw motech centre stand opinions?
I'm after people opinions on the SW Motech centre stand, i have a large touratech bash plate fitted so i'm guessing i'm limited in my choice of centre stands. This is the stand i'm looking at
http://www.off-the-road.de/en/Other-...0-R-und-X.html i haven't decided where to purchase it from yet.
How easy is it to fit? is it any good / stable? how are the feet on soft ground? does it stay out the way when off roading? any other comments? |
I fitted the Yamaha one - it was the cheapest!
It fits ok with my Adventure Spec bashplate/Engine guard. Whilst that doesn't help with your specifics (SW-M with Touratech) - I can't see TT making a bashplate that wouldn't work with Yamaha's own stand. |
+1 for the genuine article.

I will have a word with my local yammy dealer see what they say. does anyone know how much the official stand goes for in the uk? it is being a bit elusive on my google searches?
I assumed it wouldn'y fit as my TT plate does at a glance seem to cover the mounts so thats why i assumed it wouldn't fit. |

The vast majority of XTRs I've seen seem to have been fitted with the SW-Motech option. It will definitely fit with the TT bash plate... http://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/attachm...947.456761.jpg |
spot on. Exact same bash plate i have so good to see how it fits up.
I've only had a poke around when popping out for a fag (for some reason i always end up at the bike looking at something) and the only flaw within that design i could see would be when it comes to swing arm bearings, is that right? |

Soooo does anyone have any comments or user experience with this stand?

Simon
Sorry I can't contribute to the discussion ... been stuck with the same quandary myself ... so rather interested in the comments and outcome :coolsmiley: During my various trips through the Oz outback I have simply carried an old cut down cricket stump for those times I need to go wheels up :evil6: |

Yam stand
I have checked week before last with the local dealer for xt660x official yam stand they informed me yam don't do one for the xt.
|
Which I find odd as the frame has the mounts for a centre stand.
I'm taking the plunge next week after ive had chance to compare prices. |
I have the SW-Motech stand and it was easy enough to fit, even for someone as mechanically incompetent as me.
It's rock solid, and I've done a few off-road sections without any issues. The only problem I had was that I ordered some Pipewerx aftermarket pipes which were slightly wider than the stock pipes. They wouldn't go on with the centre stand in place, so they had to go back. The stand is more important to me than the pipes. BTW Simon, I also have the stage 2 DNA filter if you want to whizz past some time and try that as well as checking out the stand. |
Did you find any aftermarket pipes that fitted? I thought while researching that it looked like the exhaust was used as a stand stop.

Well mine has turned up and been fitted. I wasn't to impressed with the instructions, about on par with flatpack instructions but got it done in about 30min.
I'm surprised how sturdy it is, and wow a xt is a piece of pi?? to get on the stand, my last bike with a centre stand was a GXS750F which in comparison weighed a ton. |
Hi guys. So the XT660Z does not share the same OE mounting points under the bike behind the engine like the XT660R/X variety? I have the XT660R and am looking to buy a centre stand. Only one widely available seems to be the Sw motech for the x/r..... No sign of the hepco & becker x/r stand which resembles the one for the Z variety. Not in shape but where it mounts to. The x/r sw motech one mounts forward of the front foot rests. Just wondering why there are the mounts under the bike??? Any further info / clues please would be appreciated.

The points that look like they were intended for a centre stand are just forward of the suspension linkage. Why it was never used i've no idea, maybe Yam just changed their mind. the SW stand mounts a little behind the footpegs abd become part of the peg assembley.

Thanks Simon. Ordered a sw motech from bs moto sports. Will update on its fitting.

what worked for me was to remove the bash plate if you have one fitted, crack loose the footpeg bolts, place a car jack under the left hand engine case (crank), and jack up from there and take the bike off it's side stand as you do. i then added extra supports under the forks and swingarm, cable tied the front brake on.
it helped to loosely assemble the stand under the bike and lay it on the floor in position. you need to attatch the mounts to the stand before fitting as you won't get the stand on if you fit the mounts first. For piece of mind i fitted the left hand side first so i had the peace of mind of having the side stand available to use if i needed it. As for the spring leave that til last, raise the stand to it's up most position, attatch the footpeg end first and use the longest screw driver you have to wrestle the spring on the rear hooking point. hope this helps. took about 30 min start to finish. |
Thanks mate fitted a sw motech one last week. Just put the bike with loosened footrest bolts against a wall with brake bungied on. Fitted r/h foot rest bracket then stand then l/h bracket. Double spring was a right git to get on. Very handy bit of kit.
