XTX dual sport tyres
 

Hi Guys,

I want to do the odd green lane on my XTX and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on suitable tyres.

I use the bike for my daily commute so want a tyre that copes with wet and dry tarmac too. I would like something that works well in both scenario's and appreciate that there will need to be some kind of compromise. Ideally, an 80/20 tyre that does actually work on the 20% off road but will go for a 50/50 (or even 40/60) if it copes well with tarmac in all conditions.

Im not talking about heavy mud, hopefully shallow puddles, light mud and gravel.

I hear good things about the Heidenau K60's but they dont come in the 70 profile that is standard on the XTX, only the 90 profile. Does anyone know if it fits under the standard mud guard to the rear side of the fork?

Any other tried and tested solutions?

have a look in the tyre section on the XTR section further down the menu page, plenty of tyres suggested in there. i think i heard somewhere you can get the TK80's in the SM sizes.

TKC80 do indeed come in sizes suitable for the X, but they are only Q rated (up to 99mph). You might find them a bit hardcore, a bit too much of a compromize in favour of the off-road for the riding you describe. Have a look at Pirelli MT60RS Corsa also. They are a V rated dual purpose tyre specifically designed for supermotos - very sticky on tar and work well on light gravel/dirt. Don't last long mind!

So updating my previous thread for the assistance of others. ....

I went for the Avon distanzia tyres.
There is a supermoto specific rear tyre.
The tyres are absolutely brilliant on roads both dry and wet. The confidence they inspire and the level of grip are astounding in my experience. The grip and the lean angles I can achieve are very surprising. They have never stepped out of line once yet and I've pushed them hard on the road.
Off road on byways and trails they work really well but I have only used them in the dry. On gravel and rocks they hook up great for what they are and give a confidence inspiring drift from the rear. The front slips out on deep sandy gravel sometimes but I think most tyres would react the same. I haven't tried mud but wouldn't expect great things.
So far I have done 1500 miles mostly on road and I am hard on tyres but the rear has worn about 1.5mm which i am pleased with. There are a few small pieces of the tread that have come away but nothing to be concerned with. There are literally no chicken strips on either side of the rear tyre they are so confidence inspiring.

I would say for an 80/20 tyre to use on dry trails on a supermoto, you'd be hard pressed to better them.
They are not a cheap tyre but I think they are definately worth the extra.

100 per cent agree with Beekey, I have never found such a brilliant all round tyre as the Distanzia, wet or dry!. Will be putting some on the Ten soon. Steve

+ 1 for the distanzias; had a rear on my 640 duke II and an Avon road legal wet on the front...great tyres

I'd try those but they only go to 510? (130?)

depends what sort of terain you are intending to ride...
wide tyres on lose surface just slide on the lose surface..
narrower tyre cuts though easyer into the hard base where the grip is...

I use a 120 "460" on my XTR...

Hello, I have riden on my 07 XTX with Pirelli MT60 Corsa and I would never buy anything else.
As you can see this model is specific for supermoto and Corsa model is a bit softer and allows you to do whatever you want with the bike on twisty roads.
They are so planted on the road that you feel 200% confident with your bike.
I highly recommend them, even if they "don't look" like a supermoto tyre they are awesome!
