what to check after a tumble?
 

Great ride out on my nearly run in Tenere...until the car coming the other way left me nowhere to go but verge, front wheel dug in and I went down!, my precious new bike. Two broken ribs for me..the Ten is unscathed. After I got the bike up it wouldn't start, and I had to switch off for a while, after which all well. I was a bit shaken up but rode it home, just wondering if there is anything I should check? Can't believe how tough the Ten is, also can't believe how painful these ribs are!! Had the Go Pro on, so all caught on camera! ! Steve

Get well soon. Having broken ribs on several occasions i can sympathise. Get your bike checked by a professional, particularly if you are pursuing a claim based on the other drivers actions. You might miss something important that a professional will spot. The ten660 is a tough bike but depending on how it fell you could have escaped with no luck damage or it might need a little tlc.

From personal experience(I was hit from behind, driver was on the phone...), check the handlebar(OEM one is very weak), your frontfork, waterpump and other fragile parts. But most important is the fact that you get well again!

Thanks guys for good wishes and advice. I have checked my baby By over thoroughly, not a mark, and all seems straight and true. Could have been a lot worse for me and the bike. First service on Saturday......then some farkling!!

One thing in addition to the above that is always worth double checking when a XTZ goes over is that the airbox isn't full of oil. It can find it's way back through the crankcase breather fairly easily when on its side (particularly going down on the right hand side).

First check the airbox drain pipe isn't full. If it's not you'll be OK, but if it is full, remove the bung and drain it out. Also whip off the airbox side covers and inspect inside. The biggest problem would be if the stock paper filter has got soaked, or partially soaked in oil - they don't like it and it will choke the airflow.

It's worth removing the airbox side covers on a new bike anyway as they were/are never sealed too well from the factory. When refitting, lube the mating surfaces with silicone grease or, if you haven't got any at hand, KY jelly is safe and works very well on rubber! ;)

I dont know if you know this but there is a fall sensor on the tenere which cuts the engine out if it falls over or takes a spill like yours. To start the engine you must turn the ignition off then back on to reset it. it causes a bit of a scare when the engine wont start if you dont know about it. (speaking from experience).:o
