VIRGIN Post... please be gentle!
:box:
Hi All, It's 1am in Melbourne, and the wife and kids are sound asleep... so some time for me!!! Firstly, Welcome to the other new Members! Looks like a few of us have joined over the last week or so. I am a new member to your Forum and I am the proud new owner of a Low km 2008 XT660R. I have had the bike 2 weeks and have only had a few rides so far. First impressions of my bike... I love it! Great on the highway and open roads, and riding at high revs. So far, enough power for me... let's see how long that lasts! On the other hand, so far... not too great in traffic and cornering at low speeds... particularly in second gear.... I find myself having to use first gear to avoid stalling. Not sure if the gears are a bit too tall for me or the idle is too low..... or maybe I am just riding too cautiously! Still too early to say. As far as I know my bike is 100% standard, other than factory hand guards & factory sump/exhaust guards & a Ventura Rack & Pack. I notice that there is a lot of discussion on the forum around performance modifications. Are there some obvious shortfalls / defects with the bike from the factory? Or is the bike just detuned for different markets and emission standards? I look forward to your comments. Thanks & Regards, Cassius. Melbourne, Australia. (I live in Brunswick... please let me know if you live close by.) |
When I saw Brunswick, I though of Canada - Hey hoy!
Welcome to the house of expensive ideas.... I guess this style of bike is new to you - you'll soon get used to it. |
:hello: and :welcome: to :660:
to fix your low revs stalling please follow the link below with full instructions on how to adjust the Co levels, also try to locate the throttle screw on the left hand side of the throttle body and raise the idling speed (tickover) to between 1540 to 1550 rmp. Also adjust the chain to the recommended tension and ensure that the rubber blocks in the rear hub are not worn, otherwise order a new set from Yamaha they're only cheap. A worn set of these will cause snatchyness in your transmission and add to the stalling problems. here is the link to adjust the co levels, and please note, this only works for XTX / XTR not the XTZ Tenere http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?...=Co+adjustment |
:006: Welcome on board Cassius.

Hello & enjoy the forum & your new ride.
I was down Melbourne way last June had a ball down there with the family, food was amazing. Ate at the top of Eureka Tower, The Colonial Tram, & probably most places in between! Been talking with couple of mates about going to Phillip Island & Great Ocean road. If not this year maybe next. Cheers |
Welcome mate, you up late.

Thanks.
I'm in the Southern Hemisphere Brunswick... Cheers. |

I will have a tinker in the next few weeks. Appreciate the tips, I will let you know how I go. I got some similar advice from Kev last week via his Ebay Store... So many mods that sound easy and worthwhile... just need to way up which are NECESSARY to do ...and which are just NICE to do. I need to submit a Business Case to the wife !!! ; ) Just have to use the ..."this will make the bike safer honey" excuse! Cheers. |

I'm a bit of a night owl... only time the house is quiet enough for me to think! Took your advice about jumping on the forum. thanks for that! I haven't touched anything on the bike yet. I want to get her know her a little better and show her some respect before I go making any moves! : P Cheers mate. |
