LED Park lights

Recently, (even after being warned by the Dealer ! ) I managed to leave my ten with the park lights on for a 13 hour stint. Parked her up in the Truck park at work in bright sunshine in the middle of the day not realizing I'd turned the ignition right round to park lights. On the return to base while refueling the Truck in the dark I noticed a glimmer of light coming from the corner of the yard where the bike was parked. Oh s*** I thought to myself. But to my amazement the big Ten fired up no problem after being left for so long. I can only put it down to the fact that the week before I'd changed the park light bulbs to LED bulbs.

I also invested in an Optimate battery charger/minder, as my local friendly dealer tells me that when bike battery's are operating at less than 80% the starter motors don't engage properly & can cause premature wear leading to a $800 bill. Which he see's a lot with smaller battery equipped bikes such as WR's.

I'm just happy not to have had a miserable walk home at 3.30am for some $12 worth of LED bulb's.

I've vibrated 3 sets of LED bulbs to destruction...trying my 4th and looking slightly more promising!

The LED's do give a nice contrast against the dip beam to when it's on.

Hey Macca, have you fitted any of Kev's O2 or fuel mods to smooth out the vibes?

Got both and very happy with it, don't think you could get the vibes any better. Still, one set of lights were 4 true LEDs bunched together in one t10 bulb and it just started blinking. Bought two sets of China junk and One set was a single large LED on t10 base and they just died. While the other was single SMD on T10 and it snapped the terminals where they soldered the resister.
Have a final set in, store bought and seem to be holding up ok.

FWIW, I have an IPhone in a LifeProof case mounted on my handlebars and it started making rattling/vibration noises for incoming calls and the camera died. Bought replacement camera and pulled it apart to fit and found screws floating around inside and plenty loose!! How's that for vibes haha still, it's smoother than my BILs BMW F800 GS twin.

I've found similar. The LED bulbs out there seem to vary massively in quality and it doesn't seem to be anything to do with price or brand either. Sometimes you get lucky first time, and other times you just have to keep trying until you get ones that last.

The multiple LED ones seem to be much more temperamental than the single SMD types when exposed to damp or vibration.

Yup, seemingly no guarantee of quality, but when they're very cheap I'm not fussed.
My battery* has been fine for the last 6 years, but the bike gets used regularly. Only bike I've ever considered fitting an Optimate to was a Caponord, by virtue of it being Aprilia and therefore ****e electrics**.

*that should jinx it, I'll order the new one now shall i?
**and they were; in the 6 months/6k miles I owned it it had new HT leads, plugs, battery, reg/rect, starter solenoid...

Me too. I've had so many failures I've resorted back to incandescent bulbs!

Biggest problem wasn't the actual failure, but the mounting tab is a little thinner than the glass bulbs and just falls out of the mounting. The good thing is glass bulbs are available almost everywhere.

Mines coming up 7 years and still works fine. I do keep it on an optimate though. Though it has to be said, I've bump started the bike a few times due to ..... er,,, operator error (AKA - stopping the bike with the kill switch and leaving the ignition on :violence: )

* - maybe I to should order a new battery

What type of led lights did you all fit? I don't now what kind of light bulbs are fitted out of the factory.

Will this bulb fit?

Yep, that'll fit. You might have to turn it 180degrees because leds have specific polarity.
