Engine warning light flashing
 
Hi guys.
I had the Ten on its centre stand when it tipped over gently. Not hard. The next day the speedo, trip and odometer werent working, and the engine warning light flashes 4 times, then two quick times. Bike starting fine but a little power missing. Like I said, the engine tipped over lazily. Why is the meters not working? And what does 4x and 2x quick engine light flashes mean?

Error code 42 = speedo sensor/neutral light switch

I would suggest that when the bike tipped over it either dislodged the speedo sensor's wiring or broke the neutral light switch (or its wiring). Check these things first.

The green neutral light is fine. Will the engine flashes stop by itself if I sort out the speedo sensor or must a Yamaha agent reset it (and cost me a fortune)? Could that also be the reason for the small lack of power?

If you find the fault (I assume in the speedo sensor wiring) and sort it, the fault code (and fail safe mode) 42 will correct itself and the light will stop flashing. The code will be stored in the ECU until it is plugged into a diagnostic unit and the code history erased.

The speedo sensor is located on the top of the gearbox near the front sprocket (see image). The sensor wires run up to the connector which sits under the tank just above the exhaust valve inspection cover. The wires then run to the right hand side of the bike, joining the main loom which runs down the right to the ECU.

I don�t think it can be the sensor itself at fault here as that is unlikely to be damaged by the bike falling over. It is much more likely that the wiring has been damaged, stretched or the connector disturbed. Depending on the cable (throttle, clutch and electrics) routing, when the bars hit full lock in a fall, they can get quite tight and pull/tug at other parts of the loom putting a strain on things.

I would remove the tank and trace the speedo sensor cable via its connector back to the ECU.

How does one remove the tank? I know the nuts and bolts but I dont know where the fuel hose and meter etc. goes. After the tip over I am very weary of the seemingly sensitive electronics and sensors inside and Im very afraid of unplugging the wrong things.
