Tool of the Day - Stand Springs

I've had cause to have the centre stand off a couple of times recently and the springs are pretty fierce.

With awful memories of wrestling with stand springs (fitting the bloody thing for a start) and watching a mate fix his stand by the side of the road in Tiblisi made me look for a solution.

Well here it is:

F'ing marvelous and only a few pounds. Makes the job an absolute
breeze.

Here's one like it (I can't remember which seller I got mine off):

I've used zip / cable ties. Just make a complete loop through the spring with the cable tie and use it as a handle just like your idea. ( although it's better to wear gloves with my idea)

Yep, that works - I've done all that before: the cable ties, the coins, the washers, wrestling with levers or using side cutters to nip the spring to allow you to pull them etc. etc.

However, having the tool for the job makes a HUGE difference. It really is such little effort and the work of seconds.

Tool options

Re a spring fitting tool- The centre stand spring is about as tough and as big as most truck/earthmoving brake springs I've ever refitted.
The tool I used & the only thing available in the past, in my kit, was the largest phillips (star/cross) screwdriver. The cross part is large enough to sit & stay on the spring retainer, while the spring is tensioned to slid over retaining knob.
Works for me :045:
