XT660Z finally roadlegal!

Yesterday i received my official papers for my XT660Z.
I've imported a great XT660Z from a German enthusiast who had to let it go.

My bike:

I've had a Africa Twin before with which i experienced some great adventures. Two months ago i decided it's time for new dreams and great trips and i pulled the trigger on this baby.

The procedure to get it registered and road legal has been a bit of a pain with bureaucratic nonsense. I've imported before, but that was a much quicker proces. Unfortunatly this changed :(
hopefully i can get a license plate tomorrow. And hopefully the roads will be saltfree, so i can ride it :gbxtank:

what a great looking tenere, looks like your going to have some fun on that mate

darkhelmet 02-01-15 17:37

Today i already had loads of fun on my first real ride. It has less then half the power of my Tiger 1050, and the cornering isn't as confident yet, but what machine...

Taking speedbumps and such high speed without noticing is great fun. Also the "lack" of power is no issue. It's kind of a good thing that full throttle through the gears takes longer and doesnt throw you into warp speed.

I found a Dyno in the documentation:

It's all very white, bit like Richard Hammond's teeth - going to take some effort to keep it looking that shiny! ;)

48PS/60Nm looks about right for a DNA stage 2 set up, O2 Optimizer and Power Commander. I can see the Akrapovic cans, but what you got under the seat?

I can see some serious mods there. What with the wheels, forks, yokes and exhaust there must be some money spent there.

Steve

Well, exactly that. Exhaust with DB killer. Hopefully tomorrow i can download the PCV tune and share it on the forum.

And it is very white. I already swapped the engine guard for one in the original colour. I might change more in the future, but for now it is OK.

Do I win a prize? ;)

I used to have Akrapovic cans. I found you gain a tiny amount of power at the top end by removing the dB killers, but at the expensive of torque lower down the revs. I always thought the bike was smoother with them in. Trouble with Akras is not so much the dB killers, but the fact they contain cats which rob power.

I now have an Exan single system without a cat, which releases another 1.5hp on the same set up.

Well, you'll be on to the next round, that's for sure! :icon_cheers:

did you (need to) change the fueling after going from Akrapovic to the Exan?

I've put up an ad for my Akrapovic. Although it sounds good and civilised, i would like a single can setup

Not entirely necessary, the stage 2 + Akrapovic map will work well enough, but to gain the full effect you would have to visit a dyno. However, you wouldn't need to, as luckily you're an XT Supporter so you can download my map which has been uploaded to the PCV maps database in the "Ask Kev" section. My set up is exactly the same as yours (or would be with an Exan).
