What a difference a tooth makes!

Swapped the front 15T sprocket for a 14T.

Much better throttle response lower in the rpm range and a noticable difference in torque/power.

I use the bike daily on A and B roads with the odd unmade road thrown in at the weekend.

Highly recommend if you dont do too much long distance/motorway riding.

Only downside is I now have no idea how much the speedo is out?

XT speedos seem to be 8-10% over optimistic on a stock bike, so expect it to be somewhere in the region of a 15+% over-read with a 14T front sprocket.

Check it against a GPS. As long as you know the level of inaccuracy, then you can take it into account when reading/adjusting your speed. If it bothers you (or you don't like mental maths), then you can fit a Speedo-Healer.

I tried 14/45 and according to GPS it's 20kph out at 100kph

How did you find 14/45 as a combination?

Schnidely 18-12-14 04:00

14/45 is probably a smidgen low for combo riding i.e. hwy and fast/slow dirt. BUT, would rather be a tad low to encourage more horses out of this agricultural engine.
Having a 14 on the front will wear the front sprocket faster than 15. I went for a 15/48 combo which is pretty similar.

I run 14/48... is only around 500rpm more at 100kmph...
Or 15/48 if I have long road km to cover... 15/48 about the same
ratio as 14/45...

I also run 14/48 wich is good offroad ratio but pain if have to ride tarmac too long.

I bought speedohealer to fix Speedo error and works great.
